What if all traders would be taxed in-game? I mean, taxes being a part of the game engine. For example, 1% (or rather <insert your proposition here>) of the value of any cargo bought or sold on a base will go to the owner (by ID) of that base.
Those amounts would be distributed e.g. based on the character activity during last 24h (daily wage?). Feel encouraged to propose better solutions.
Reasons to do it:
- No need to rely on forum reports etc.
- Gives a real (not RP-only) reason to improve the safety of the routes from your bases/planets
- Gives a real (not RP-only) reason to attack enemies' traders and trade routes.
- As close to the real taxation as possible.
- No money would appear from nowhere.
Reasons not to do it:
- Requires serious coding
- Can be abused (this applies to the wage distribution rather than taxes).
Feel free to PM me regarding any grammar/spelling/other language mistakes I have made in my posts.
This would be good in some ways, but as you say, it requires SERIOUS coding, and could be open to abuse - police just left idle, ramping up the credits.
My way requires no admin intervention at all except a slight modification to the lawfull IDs, and so can be implemented almost immediately.
However my way DOES rely heavily on player co-operation, but hey, isn't that what we are all here for?

How about we just be polite and tip the lawfuls if they save us? So next time you're saved by a lawful on your trader/miner you give him or her a small tip.
Of course there are a lot of people who are greedy and won't tip even a small bit, but hey, that's life.

That's one option, but it is not really realistic, many traders wont do it, and it's kinda what escorts are for.

Well, I see where you're coming from, but just because it says can escort traders, it doesn't mean they get paid-per-escort, that's the freelance way, people (realistically) get wage jobs so they will have money whatever happens.
Plus police/army wouldn't make very good long-term escorts, as they have to stay in their house, and most trade routes go through two or three houses.
Also, they may be called off by command to help with other problems, leaving the trader defenceless.
That's why we have freelancers.
And that's why I think the wage Idea is the best.

Ain't one of them, but it might be a good idea to give it directly to the officers who you see on duty most often. Just to show them that we appreciate their time-consuming and low-profitable RP.
