Ok before reading the books of the Halo lore, I was very sceptical about owning Halo Reach, however after reading some of the books (currently 2/3 way through Ghost of Onyx) I am VERY interested in the Halo lore, almost to the point of fanboyism.
I've always loved Halo, the first game and the mystery, the books only made my more interested, I know already, that the game will betray the books somewhat. In Halo Reach, the people you control, are Spartan III's, in essence, cannon fodder for suicide missions. They had semi-perfect camouflage armour, not shielded armour. I know for the game its nice to have a shield, but please Bungie, make it consistent with your books.
Before the books I didn't care, but now, I REALLY do sympathise with the Spartans somewhat, the hell they put up with, and in essence, the levels as humanity we'd go through....
The game itself looks great, and as a fan, I hope it goes well.
The books definitely add some depth. Except... Except for The Flood. That one just kinda... Made me cry. In a bad way. Like, a 'drop my serotonin levels to the point of contemplation of suicide' sort of way.
But ja, the literature makes you appreciate it more. And I am also excited for Reach.
Upon recommendations, I skilled The Flood. Reading The Fall of Reach made me think, "Oh my God", since the crap they had to put up with and with "The Ghosts of Onyx" makes me think, "We're bloody desperate, and on our last legs".
Very rare do I see true desperation with humanity, yes, It's Halo, but it conveys is SO well in the books. The games screwed with it.
Personally...I haven't liked any of the Halo games since I finished Halo 2 ..... All others have been complete failures to me storyline wise, although I can't speak for ODST since I've not played it, however it did look fairly decent....and Halo Reach actually looks really good...but I'll wait until it's been out for a while because well....I don't want to suffer the disappoint I've faced with all the others...
I am nervously excited for Reach as...well, y'know, I did think Halo had a great story to it which is why I was disappointed with the other Halo games, all after Combat Evolved failed to deliver epic story, I mean the story was there but the delivery was failure....Reach looks like it might deliver....so, yeah...I'm hopeful but skeptic.
I ignore everything from after Halo 2. Halo 1 was immerse. It literally threw you into the conflict without a damn clue of what was going on. Then Halo 2 came along and said, "Let's keep the story...but add more to MP." Then Halo 3 came along and screamed, "Halo 3 Mulitplayer with SP as a bonus!" And I just lost it from then.
"THE HULL HAS BEEN BREACHED AND THESCIENCEIS LEAKING OUT!"
Reach looks pretty awesome, at least MP wise with the whole new Forge your entire map idea. Not planning on getting seeing the 360's been dead for me for 3 years now.

The moment I saw a fluffy bunny like thing running towards me, I stopped my Halo career. That was Halo 2 if I am not mistaken. Halo was the biggest "balloon" I have ever seen. The only reason it became so popular was there wasn't any other fps game on consoles to play multi co/op.
Overrated imho but I have respect to its fans.
I prefer Crysis or UT3 anytime for multi stuff. SP wise, there are tons of games that I prefer as FPS over Halo.
The other Halo games I've played have been fun but not much else, and Halo multiplayer doesn't really interest me so I'll be wanting a good singleplayer game out of it. Preferably something that will take me more than a few hours to complete.

Halo sort of lost it for me after 3. I still thought that story was pretty cool, but ODST? Besides, Halo games are way too expensive for their contents. Perhaps I'll buy it when it's price is halved, but not now. Not for 60-70 euros.
