Before I say anything I swear down on my life that I searched for 'Suggestions' as in the thread to post new Ideas and all etc.
Anyway, I would like to suggest a thread on the tutorial / Support page, with small facts about Discovery which are important when it comes to RP.
For Example:
The present date of Discovery - Something I cannot seem to remember, and something I can't easily find without searching through a few threads. ( I won't be dramatic )
How long a day is in Discovery - Something which I read up on and seemed to have different points of view.
Oh I'll be honest here, that's all I can think of at the moment, but there are a few hundred players in this community, I'm sure other facts will pop up here and there.
Quote:Ten people would give you ten vague answers.
This. It's everyone's creativity and imagination.
I think it depends on the question you might have. The universe of Freelancer is based on infos of the vanilla
game. Anything else is DevTeam/Community-grown. When i asked "Have the ships some kind of black
boxes?" some answered with yes, some with maybe. It really depends on what you want to know.
If you can't find anything useful about it...hey it's RP. As long as you don't powergaming you can do whatever
you want IMHO.
Humans can't survive without insulin, this much be know... Now, once you take Cardamine your body starts to adapt and eventually reaches the point where you need the substance to survive, but your body can't produce it on its own. It's kind of like being diabetic, only with more perk to it than there are drawbacks.
Or to use the more controversial version: You cease to be human and require other substances to live, all of which are found in Cardamine.
Length of a day should vary from planet to planet, for obvious reasons. If you're talking about a some form standard dating system for in-space locations or perhaps some sort of 'average' for each system, that's something else. But even then I would have a hard time believing Sirius could get their crap together to agree on something.
But the idea of a "facts" reference sheet is a good one.
I strongly support the idea of making such fact sheets so people can know about Freelancer and Discovery lore better.
For one there a lot of unknowns in the history of the houses, and on the other hand a lot of people have wrong ideas about things that are hidden at some remote point of the game.
But I would definately like these fact sheets to be inside the game aswell, and not only the forum, for several reasons:
-If you had something to read in the game while you fly (like those items that explain the rules when you start on a starflier), trade runs would be a lot less boring. People wouldnt alt tab out to do other stuff.
-Its always more atmospheric to get information in the game then to have to look it up in an out of roleplay forum
-A lot of people dont read the forums, or see it as tiresome to have to look it up in the forum
I'm think about either
a /encyclopedia *subject* command which pops up and infocard about the subject (in roleplay it could be a sort of interstelar wikipedia)
or
items which are in-RP "books". You can buy the books on highly populated planets, and the avalbility of the book at certain places will be linked to the subject of the book. For example you can get a history book about Rheinland on planet New Berlin, a sort of scientific book about cardamine on a cryer pharmaceuticals base and planet Malta, and almost any kind of book on planet Cambridge. You could also have characters on the base which give you lectures about things, but I think the book items are much better because you can take them along and read them when you are bored.
People could read them while trading or while flying long distances, swap them, or trade them.
The same books could be availabe on hte forum as well, for the people who prefer to read them there.
I guess the problem would be writing all that down, and disagreement with what is true and history and what not. But it could be a community effort with discussions on the forums while writing them.
