[font=Palatino Linotype]Zanders looked into Johnson with cold dead-eyes as he spoke in a monotonic tone.
[color=#FFCC66]"I had received a report sent by a civilian approximately five minutes towards the end of my patrol that a man who went by the name "Zodiac" was apparently shooting down Liberty Navy rookies for reasons unknown. Of course I immediately questioned the validity of this claim which wasn't backed by any evidence whatsoever but after I received another voice-in from Officer Shore about the same pilot, I decided to investigate this matter."
Here is a copy of the voice-in from Officer Shore:
Quote:Greetings Mr.Zander,
I have heard that you are argueing with a Person called Zodiac for shooting at Liberty Navy Recruits. I'd like to mention that I didn't see him doing this, but I want to say that this Person has been an Issue lately. He did not only call me a Coward after I have stopped following the Lane Hacker into the Whitney Ice Field (while he was clearly following the Criminal with the Intention to kill him), he did also distract the LPI's Operations in California yesterday.
This wannabe Vigilante does nothing else except steering up Trouble.
[font=Palatino Linotype][color=#FFCC66]"Well, considering the fact that the pilot admitted himself to have been shooting Liberty Navy rookies, for no reasons less than gathering extra units of nanobots...
...which would not only make it a breach of the Liberty law on two accords, murder and piracy, but also that he constantly kept a hostile tone towards me - myself and the Liberty Navy High Command agreed that a crime had been committed and that his man was obviously a dangerous person. A grave one nonetheless. "
[color=#99FF99]"So let's recap here for a quick moment.
You investigated a person based on the reports of shooting down several Liberty Navy rookies in action.
By further questioning you reached a point in the conversation where the pilot admitted to have committed these actions. He also admitted that he did it for the sole reason of acquiring nanobots. And added to this, he continuously kept a hostile tone towards you. Now, you and the Liberty Navy High Command agreed that a crime had been committed. One that was of considered a rather grave one.
So taking this into account,
was the transmission between you and Zodiac "trivial" in any way as the defendant put it?
And before you answer that, did this transmission - once again considering the context within, carry any information of sensitive value that you did not wish to disclose to external parties?"
These transmissions were crucial to the investigation!
The fact that the man admitted to have committed this crime saved us not only time and resources to further investigate the matter, but possibly saved the lives of more soldiers that could have been killed by a civilian in disguise.
As for your second question, in any matter between the Liberty authorities and a civilian it is always considered sensitive information. What if it had turned out that the man in question was innocent? That information can't be leaked to external parties, it could potentially damage his reputation. These are written in our protocol procedures and we are always supposed to follow them to the letter."
[color=#99FF99]"So not only did the officer who participated in this matter conclude that these transmissions were crucial to his investigation, but the fact remains that classified information does not necessarily constitute military operations or something of similar nature, it can also be in regards to a simple case of an investigation!
Now as for the claim that the defendant was not aware of hacking the transmission is refuted immediately if you take one more look at Evidence A. You will see on Transmission Number Eight that Captain Samuel Zanders WARNED the defendant to NOT continue sending transmission after the initial hacking had occurred. Then you will see on Transmission Number Nine that the defendant transmits YET ANOTHER message to the channel. Thus being FULLY aware of the law.
The argument that Zodiac knew the defendant and thus had no problems disclosing information that was classified does not mean that the Liberty Navy Officer is allowed to break from standard protocol! It doesn't matter what the civilian thinks in this particular instance, because the message originated from the Liberty Authorities and not the civilian himself, therefore their rules apply to the channel!
The defendant has resorted to arguing about semantics.
Commodore Robinson had managed to slip into the courtroom unnoticed during the exchange between Captain Zanders and the prosecuting attourney. Tapping her stilettoed heel quietly on marble floor as she waited for the prosecution to finish, she noted that the prosecution was doing quite a good job. Leaning against the back wall with her arms crossed, Christina stood waiting to be called to the witness stand.
Eli Rubin stood. "Objection your honor, irrelevant. This investigation is in regards to the investigation of my client's supposed hacking into a secure communications channel, and does not have anything to do with the pilot Zodiac. Zodiac's only involvement in this case is his transfer of the private communique to my client. The prosecution's question into why Zodiac was contacted(Post #22) is completely irrelevant to the discussion at hand."
