' Wrote:This is an exceptionally good idea when Dab's getting a dockable Spyglass prepared for Vespucci system. And that will definitely be the old model. Now, try to rename it without losing sense of logic.
Igiss. I don't care about the bases being larger inside and the planets and stars being undersized. I've grown to accept it during the (admittedly short) time I've been playing FL. Also, I clearly stated that ships having mis-sized hangars and stuff isn't a big problem. I just gave my opinion on it, which was that it looked a little funny.
And I don't care what you say about "no ship models being removed" because you're just being really, really lazy. Part of making a game, a fangame or a game mod is that you're never going to be leaving ideas as they originally were. Things will be changed to something better whether you like it or not. Here's an example:
These are VERY early screenshots of The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time for the N64.
Here is some later screenshots of the same game.
Later Still...
And here is some up-to-date screenshots of The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time.
EDIT: Forgot about IE. But instead of adding a line break I'll thumbnail the images instead.
You can plainly see change there, and now it looks a million times better and its graphics, gameplay and overall size is good for it's generation. A lot of time and effort went into making The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time and it is still, to this day, one of the bestgamesever made.
Although Freelancer Discovery isn't Zelda, my main point is that change is good. Especially when that change is for the better. Don't take the lazy way out. Make the mod better.

Igiss didn't have to make the mod at all. Also, if your so keen on removing ships, why don't you just bloody-well do it yourself. We don't have to pay for anything more than the vanilla FL disk. We don't have to pay for any more for the disco mod.
Give the guy a break. And hey, if you want to make the mod better, go make your own or help Igiss do it. Don't whine about it.
Also, he isn't a modder full time. He has a job he needs to do, paperwork that needs to be done, and a host of other things aswell. FL isn't his only life. It would be great if it would be his only job, but that just ain't gonna happen.
Do something useful, and stop complaining that you think this great mod should be better than its current state of near perfection.
One more thing. If you don't care, the door is over there.
I agree with you McNeo. If you have so great ideas, Thomas Hill, just do a model for yourself with the models you like. Really I appreciate Igiss's work, but if you want to replace the old model with a new one, a suggestion would be for a "Spyglass MK2", or "Spyglass Advanced" or something. Not just delete old skins and replace them with newer ones.
This is why I just say keep the old ones as outsider ships, from out of this galaxy. BUT, Spyglass would be a prob cause dab wants a dockable one in his home systems, or something like that...
I guess it's time to stop being really, really lazy. Start deleting ships from the mod and wiping player database each new version, like many other servers do. That will help me to overcome my laziness, and will make things surprisingly easier, since removing stuff is much easier than adding.
Btw, thanks for the Zelda screens, and for the horizontal scrollbar it added to browsers of everyone who has 1600x or less resolution. Good example. I'm a game studio being paid for my work. And the mod sells quite well too.
Anyway, I intended this thread as a brief announcement. Maybe it's time to calm down?
I never said Igiss mods his whole life. It's pretty obvious he doesn't, but really, there shouldn't be any trouble replacing models of certain ships. If not replacing then maybe making secondary versions like many people here have suggested.
I've heard how hard modding Freelancer is. I know what Igiss had to do to get the current ships ingame (getting permission and readying the ship for FL, which is a long process as Igiss has established), but I seriously do not understand what the big deal is with replacing or remaking them is.
And lose that "I'd like to see you do better" attitude, because I don't need to be an FL modder to be critical of an FL mod.
Besides, not ALL of the ships need to be replaced. I'm perfectly fine with the Homeworld ships and anything that isn't made for a single faction like the Raven's Talon, the Container Transport and all of Legeonation's ships.
But faction ships that don't even suit the unique style of the factions that made them* don't really seem right. Some of them are OK (like the Bounty Hunter Destroyer), but some (like the Outcast Destroyer) don't look like anything their respective factions would create at all.
There will be always someone who likes a certain ship (I've heard the Outcast Destroyer is actually pretty good because it has such a slim model), which is why doing the "Hacker Spyglass MKII" thing is more practical. Plus, that gives some leeway for when Dab's dockable Spyglass uses the old model. Besides, that way the Hackers could have two battleships with similar or even different stats. Liberty already has that going with the Dreadnought and Carrier, and it works pretty well.
Obviously, I went a bit psycho in my last post in this thread. I apologize for that. I don't want to upset you, Igiss, because I'm only trying to convey my opinions, even if I am being rough (and wordy) with them.
* I don't mean like "Junkers based this ship on an alien prototype and sold it to Freelancers", but actual ships that factions primarly use.

If I am not mistaken, Igiss doesnt want to remove the ships not because hes lazy, but because he doesnt want all his hard work down the drain. He had to center the models, re-do the hard points, get the creator's permission to use them, balance them, fix their camera angles, incorporate them into the game, give them a hash so as they can be added to IONCROSS, and the list keeps going on and on.
I have been looking it over, and I think just even r-naming them may cause issues not only with the creators, but possably with players aswell.
I personally say let us just make newer versions of the propsed ships, but if the ship DOES have something wrong and it cannot be fixed (Like the old corsair dread), then well.... ya get the idea.
How many ships are gonna be replaced/redone anyways? I know the Hacker Spyglass, but what else?

Its fine to criticise the mod, but when you criticise the modder of said mod, thats when I get nasty.
And no, I don't want a player wipe (I used to, but I really would have no time to build them. I can barely get on enough to keep them from being deleted as it is.)
And Yuri has a good point. I suggest you read his first paragraph Thomas Hill. That should tell you everything you need to know.
