Right now the Nova torpedo had it's health upped significantly in order to keep it from being blown up by TCDs when fired from bombers, as it would result in a near instant death for them.
However, standard fighter mounted torpedoes, specifically the Sunslayer, still are susceptibleto TCDs from what I have seen... now it would be nice if they were not, as a Sunslayer blowing up in your face hurts real real bad. Now my timing with them is usually good enough to avoid such things, but let's face it, CDs are fast, and will often hit you before you are outside the torpedo's blast range. I would really like it if such a design flaw was reversed, like it was with the Nova.
Has this been left alone intentionally to discourage torpedo usage? Or is this just an oversight that can be abused? And more importantly, will anyone care?
(Don't say use a mini razor instead, just don't even go there)
I'd suggest trying the Starkiller instead of the Sunslayer. Effectively, the Starkiller is like a more powerful Cannonball missile. It's much faster than the Sunslayer, so you'll hit your target more and end up using less ammo even though it takes more hits to kill.
Personally, I use the Starkiller with a few missiles, so I know where you're coming from, but it's not insurmountable in the least.
EDIT: Another thing is that if you have a big difference in projectile speeds, then sometimes your missiles can detonate your torpedo before it gets to the target. Having your projectiles have comparable speeds helps a lot.

Eh I haven't used the Starkiller much, but I may try it out again at some point. I just love my Sunslayer too much to give it up so readily :nyam:
I guess I am at an impasse thought wise. I can see missiles being smaller and weaker and therefore more vulnerable to CDs... torpedoes being bigger, slower, harder hitting should bypass that.
However at the same time why bother firing a CD at a missile, they are not as heavy hitting and they are much faster... so a torpedo could be something you actually want to remove, and have time to remove it from play.
Maybe 2 CD hits should knock a fighter torpedo out of commission? That would prevent instant death and still allow people to blow it up. But right now, ships with torpedoes have a big red button on them that says "CD me for 19200 damage"

or whatever the number was
The most commonly used missile is a Cannonball which does 7,580 damage. That's a lot of damage. Considering that you're basically taking the damage away from yourself and applying it directly to your enemy by hitting the missile with a CD, it's kind of a no-brainer. The other two widely used missiles, the Sidewinder and Firestalker, do 5,022 damage and 3,790 damage. It's a little less damage, but same thing. If you blow it up in your enemy's face, it hurts a lot. Trust me on that one.
Given the speed and potency of fighter torpedos, I rather think they're okay.
The thing is, most people don't actually know how to CD missiles and torpedos. If you fly enough, then you can really get into a rhythm of shooting without the enemy being able to CD you. Not to mention the hilarious fights against mini razor folks. Missile style is really the antithesis of shotgunning. If you play your game, you win that fight easily.

My marauder has mini,2 debs, 4 missiles, and it rules 1on1 up to/including GBs. Personally i think torps should not be made stronger. Makes no sense to me that 3 flak hits on a nova will not kill it right now. And sorry but most use sun/star slayers against other snubs. So keep them weak enough for CDs to kill um.
