Nothing can get past the tech chart, not even faction weapons from wrecks. You just can't prove you got your weapons from a wreck since they're exactly the same as the ones bought from a base.
I think I read somewhere that house guns (hornvipers, magma hammers...) below level 8 are considered civillian. Maybe that would help you go around the tech chart. Of course, they don't have nearly the same performance as a full blown LVL9 but if it's for some sort of RP, it'd help. Like a trophy gun or something.
I wanted/had one, looted from one of the wrecks in bering/hudson on my 13th penal Fighter... long time ago:)
The tech chart is final. Doesn't matter how involved your RP is, whether or not something actually happened in game or was simply made up. If the tech chart says no, you can not have it.
<strike>Go start a petition to remove that horrid beast.</strike> Scratch that, I'm starting a petition to remove the tech chart. (despite all of us knowing how effective internet petitions really are...)
So everyone goes get their weapons from wrecks? Or maybe we get something similar to codename-shops! Srzly, why would getting a gun from a wreck be any different from getting it in another way?

That's something that I (and probably a few other people) have proposed in the past, but I don't know if it was ever picked up as being "official". Even so, A Class 8 "Hornviper Mk I" would still belong to Rhienland, making it Rheinland civilian. And even the "House civilian" squares in the tech chart are somewhat restricted.

That was an OPINION from a player, NOT a ruling from an admin.
Regardless of what level the weapon is - Dusty did a good job of explaining it on the first post of the tech chart. * If using equipment from a white cell you must have gained posted permission from the official faction which represents the owning equipment. Should there be multiple factions any one may be contacted. Ensuring that permission is accurately and posted in this thread in a timely fashion is the responsibility of the one using the equipment.
* To determine which faction a ship or weapon belongs to, first read the infocard of the ship/weapon. If the infocard states the faction owner of the technology, then that may be all you need to know.
That's pretty simple. Looking at the info card of the Magna Hammer we see: N9-A "Magma Hammer" Liberty Plasma Cannon Mk I. That means that it's a Liberty Navy weapon. Now, go look at the tech chart. If it's red to your ID, then you can't use the weapon - period. White, you have to have to have POSTED permission. Green, you can use it freely. Blue, you can use GUNS freely, but not ships.
So scrolling down, we see that Liberty Corporations can use Liberty navy GUNS freely, but not their ships. LSF, LPI, and LN can use ALL Liberty Navy stuff freely. And Bounty Hunters, Freelancers, Mercs, Bretonians and and the IMG need written permission to use their gear. EVERYONE else is prohibited from using it - regardless of what level the weapon is.

I used to think this too, but then I considered that when you're ship gets blown up, InRP you go and buy a new one and buy all the equipment ect. So even if you origionally got the guns from a wreck, you'd still need faction permission to get new ones the first time you die. Igliss decided this would be too annoying to make players actually have to do in actuallity, but that's the reason I believe.
