i m not asking for hardcore pvp. and i certainly do not want a dead pilot to delete himself. that would be carried away too much - waaay too much. but as of now, there s no penalty for dieing - hell, there s even a sweet little bonus ( shiny new ship ) when you die. so when dieing becomes such a good alternative it can t be right.
loosing codenames: i do not have codenames, the reason for that is - i m dead lazy when it comes to farming, i can do a traderoute for hours ( for that i m not too lazy ), i can safe up millions of credits to burn them on a battleship just to sell it 10 min later, but sitting at a wreck waiting for a serverreset - nah. i do shoot wrecks when i happen to get close anyway - but other than that, i couldn t care less about them.
are they really that awesome? i wouldn t really know - i m flying a zoner jug, and there s no cap ship codename, as far as i know, and a behemoth freighter which is able to own pretty much any npc fighter anyway, no matter what weapon i use as long as they sort of match the level. ( not like there are codename turrets anyway )
however, it appears that exept for morrigan, everyone would dislike to give a "death" more weight. - i find that a double ended morale though. people make a hell of a fuss about when someone has a weapon equipped that might or might not belong to the faction, and a second later, they fly into the sun to recover their codies.
freelancer IS roleplay "light" no problem with that and its pretty nice as it is sort of - i can chill there. but there are just some discrepances that get on my nerves ( not much, just a bit ) - i just think that especially those that put very much emphasis on what is called "roleplay" should at least not suicide ( too much ).
for the insurence idea - nice idea - but i wanne see the insurence that recovers your credits when you voluntarily fly your ship into the sun.

Just an FYI, some of us fly fighters.....and Codies are like medals that you worked on getting.
I do not actively run for codies but if I find one I do pick it up.
But apparently you havent seen the RAT RACE that ensues after a server reset. And certain players that pop up in certain systems then dissapear in a minute after docking at the closest bases. Players that take Codie orders in NY systems (to be fulfilled on the next reset) 20 million for a solaris ? come on) The problem lies also in people that kill you for no reason. Case in point. Twice I have been killed by a certain "Zoner" faction for not doing any thing. I forwarded the snapshots to BullDogNK but havent seen any replies from him. May be I should just post the screenies and let the board decide. My question is if I lose my equipment due to a certain trigger happy bastard who doesn't give a rat's arse about RP who should I complain to ? RP refers to stories...moving story line. Again that is my interpretation. Playing the events that trigger new ideas and story lines. Its not much about a player dying and losing his gunz. Any how to each his own. You want to play like that, I respect it. But unless the Admins say something about it, let me play the way most of the server is playing. Peace.
Personally I have only done the suicide thing once, maybe twice. Most times if it gets to the point that I have lost all of my weapons, Im dead anyway so I dont run I let my opponent have the satisfaction of the kill. I fly around him till he/she blows me out of the sky.

ON MY WAY OUT OF RETIREMENT
Doesn't FL Hook have an option to win credits from a loser? So if you win a fight (definitely have to be RP, though), you make money from the loser and get to repair using his "debris"?
don't get me wrong....I do think death needs to have some sort of attached penalty...and, this is my idea:
Have ships drop things...if at all possible
remove them from the player's ship after it dies, and leave it for the victor.
that way, if you have friends, they can pick it up for them.
If not, to the victor gull the spoils.
and, it gives a bit of circularity..instead of destroying possibly unique items, they get passed on.
might i ask how sitting outside manhatten in a oc destroyer killing lsf npc's in oorp last time i checked outcasts are in new york which would make in role. right fare nuff it wouldn't really happen one ship flying outside a enemies capital planet and start running amock.
but hey then again the pilot might be a utter nut case and think hes unstoppable....... which wouldnt be to wrong since ny is a ticklefest for any ship above lvl 6 and in this case outcasts are pirates who knows what kind of ppl they got working for em might be a few head cases out there.
sorry if i completely miss interpreted that post and either way this is kinda off topic so il shut up about that now.
i mean no offence here but as a zoner it would be rather hard for you to hold as much value in your weapons than what a IE a pirate would jinx. Weapons are really our life blood twud be hard for a neutral loving person such as yourself to place as much value in a weapon than us battle torn personnel and as pip said the RAT RACE heh it truly is a rat race if u dont get on 1st really you aint getting urself a nice new shiny codie. personally i only use 1 DB and the rest nomads with a buck and wyrm which arent so bad but thats for the exact reason its hard as hell to be able to get yourself a good set of codenames buying em for a silly price to then be destroyed and do it all over again personally that would be one of them things that makes you go, wanna know what i really cant be assed with this game anymore.
each player here can die atleast once a day or more in worse case scenario. Its really easy that really would be the equivelant to replacing ur weps 3 times a day thats 60mil a day if u have a solaris u jus lost nevermind the crap loada other stuff u jus lost ie. novas, nukes, ammo, shield n hull repair, and all other guns u lost. right fare enough it doesnt happen all the time in a fight you loose a weapon but if ur in a fighter fighting lets say someone with guided torps you get hit with one of them with your shield down sorry to say but ur weapons are gone almost.
but then again dont get me wrong suicide really isnt the answer to sorting this problem out. if it was me i would run into a system full of enemy players or even npcs. tell em ur here to smack em silly and let em whipe the floor with your ship done thats u been killed and repaired nicely and hell you even done it with a clear concience.
dropping its stuff i could very well live with. i don t want the precious items taken out of the game. it would just increase the rat race like you called it. one could bargain with the winner afterwards to maybe get a deal for the weapons or whatever.
btw. i switched the behemoth for a fighter now. but i just like the chainguns too much to care for codenames still. but then, i am zoner and never attacked anyone yet - and no one wanted to attack me. so i could prolly fly around without any weapons anyway - for me they are just part of the ship, unused parts - at least when it comes to pvp. - thats why i m zoner.
ps.: zoners that are trigger happy? - might suggest them a pirate ID next time. the worst and most unlawful thing that zoners do is smuggle stuff ( artifacts ). other than that, they should be purely defensive - but to each one his own.
well....bargaining with the guy who just shot you down would be soooooo ooc....its just horrible.
and, about those chainguns....yeah, they are uberguns, if you can hit with them more than 30% of the time, but they cause lag....and have had their refire reduced in the next version because of it...
seriously, watch a battle where one of the players has 3 goddesses....like pretty, energy draining fireworks

This would be good for both bounty hunters and pirates.
That way they can consider a kill either a 'minor bounty' or 'robbing the spare change of the victim, since they didn't give their credit card PIN'.
yea bargaining with the winner is out of roleplay, well, but i consider it a better way than to fly into the next gas giant. at least it makes players deal with each other instead of deal with the next deadly orbital. anyway - or the winner takes it all - bad luck i don t care, since i get my weapons in the shops, i d just buy me new ones.
and my sweet purple chainguns get nerft?!? *cry* i hope not too much - maybe only to 20.00? i just love to spill hundreds of energy bolts at my enemy, locking them down by the sheer impact of so many hits. oh, and i m too bad at aiming with slower guns ... so its either chainguns - or..... i daresay missiles for me. ( atm raven talon or something with 8 chainguns - lol, i just LOVE the fireworks ! - and no, its of course not more efficient than codenames, i guess - but much more fun, lol )
