As the title says, I always use 1st person view (ie in the ship, no cockpit) but whenever I see bounty claims with proof pictures they always seem to be 3rd person with the chars ship in the foreground.

Who fights 1st or 3rd person? Which works best?

I'm probably the world's worst PvP fighter anyway being really old, so any general tips on how to not get my arse kicked by everyone else? :P

Add me on skype if you want to learn a few tricks.

For fighters and such go for 3rd person.

For battleships and battlecruisers, first person against another heavy cap, turret view against everything else.

Destroyers and GBs should use rear view, turret view, and normal view according to their tactics.

Strike-craft should use third person.

3rd Person view. Since 1st is really crapped in Freelancer. In the first teaser trailer, where Freelancer was represented for the very first time, it is shown that cockpit view had to be more interactive (radars, head turning and other stuffs). However, all that disappeared with old FL engine. Instead of semi or full simulator we got arcade space shooter. All the best things was thrown out from a game because rush of Microsoft.

Plus, all the same cockpits are really boring, especially when in Capship.

Note that snubs can't actually see more in 3rd person. Note carefully the edge of your view and it is the same in either 1st or 3rd. 3rd person does not widen your view. I realize that doesn't make any sense, but I did try this multiple times to be sure.

However, 3rd person is much better for snub combat as you have a better chance to see and dodge mines. And you can also tell where incoming fire is coming from more easily.
