i had that project cancelled already - but recently i was asked to look into a revision of the custom gaian GB again.
i was asked to remove the very kusarish wings and replace them with the typical gaian ornaments.
the result is a very long, slim GB ( which would require minor adjustments to its agility, cause it really is smaller now )
the skinning was revised to show 50% red and 50% white - and the engines went from the UV-silver skin to the ornamented bretonian gold/white.
regarding to the lore, i d suggest to treat it as an upgraded version. - the first ( current ) claymore was a dumbed down kusari GB ( kusari helped a lot ) - this version would be more genuine gaian - so you d see a lot less kusari in it.
and yes - since the release takes its time - i m sure we can squeeze it in.
edit: leaves the question : is it really that much different to justify a replace? - all in all.. it looses the "retro" look and adds a slightly more hightech look. - but the new gaian vhf kind of keeps a retro look. - but thats rather up to the NLH
this is the zoner GB - point me to the similarities
seriously i mean - i might simply not see it.
core zoner design:
- compact engines that are - if possible - never located in the very rear of the ship - but someway in the middle
- flat / horizontal with massive wing structures
- rounded, streamlined
- monochromous ( usually a mixture of silver and black ) without the use of any colours
core gaian design:
- flexible i daresay - the fighter has its engine in the very front, the gunboat has a classic twin engine in the rear
- more vertical than horizontal ( yes - the gunboat turned out to be rather tubelike, cause i had to remove the wings )
- very long - and if possible somewhat hunchbacked
- typical bretonian colourscheme
since i consider you a "pro" when it comes to modelling, i value your opinion - even if its a short one-liner.... but i can only loose the "zonerish-ness" ( is that even a word? ) of my designs if you elaborate your statement a little bit more.
As a user of Claymore myself and as a member of faction I adore this revision. Current Claymore isn't bad, though. One just needs to fly it for some time to experience all pros and cons - and the cons exist. Actually, currently there are only two people in NLH who log on their Claymores - while the faction itself maintains a descent level of activity.
When it comes to explaining all the good and the bad sides of Claymore, I usually call Somni - the player that loves his gunship and promotes its usage - and he started Claymore-related discussions thousands of times. I think he can post himself to explain what he thinks, so I won't mention the technical part.
The revision looks good. The revision is beautiful. I actually believe that modeller that created original Claymore and Gaian fighter (which is actually my fetish) know how to keep the original style better than many others. This version of Gaian gunship will be much better due to utilisation of all its specifics - and it really look like something created taking into consideration one's experience with it.
Yes, it's different, but it leaves space inbetween its modern design and rather oldschool original Claymore and the brand new fighter - just in case you'll to pick up another project for Gaians later. Uh, and the good thing is that it now looks like a ship for hit-and-run tactic Gaians supposed to use.
I don't hate this one like I did the original remodel. There are things about it that are kinda cool, but the 'retro' look is why I like what the gaians already have & the thought of a massive asthetic revamp like this bugs me because if this goes through, then the fighter asthetic has to change as well . I'm no longer any part of the NLH, so my opinion doesn't really hold any water anymore really, but I still play Gaians & I don't see any real reason to make dramatic changes like this...other than change simply for changes sake.
I think the original is great & any possible changes to the look should be minor. The Kusari/Bretonian look of it has logical reasoning behind it & I'm not opposed to little changes if it helps make the ship better in combat, but I'm fully opposed to a complete overhaul like this.
If this is what the NLH wants & it goes through, I'll deal with it, but I'll never fly the thing myself. ::shrug::
you make a very strong point there, marburg. - change for changes sake has the air of something redundant.
however - change is a motivational factor not to be ignored. - cosmetics - even small ones have a revival effect. its like buying a new car.
after all - a car only takes you from A to B - and to be honest... even in countries where you re bound to a speed limit - and where the secondary issues like "safety" or "fuel consumption" are taken into consideration. - people still like the simplicity of the fact that "it looks new".( not better or worse - just new )
a new toy is only a short burst of motivation - but it comes with a motivation.
in discovery - especially since our updates appear to take longer and longer - revisions are also made to show "progression" in terms of lore.
- so the entire zoner shipline ( just to make an example ) is getting a facelift, cause from 4.84 to 4.86 much has changed - and the designers have simply redesigned many aspects of the ships. - so have other factions.
along with that - a slight rebalance might be done ( like unlocking the front turret, which acts as a F-gun ( limited arc ) to more freedom.
i think i wrote it to somni via PM ...
the first claymore ( except that it was rather a byproduct - cause i meant it to be a dublin racer first ) got it, cause it appeared to be a nice idea at the time - and gaians were a semi active faction with rather solid RP and a continous level of low, but steady activity.
the VHF got in cause - well... it fits in. - but it was also not meant to be a gaian fighter - it just turned out to match the profile quite well. ( and its undeniable that bretonia doesn t get too many revisions - due to the painful texturing job )
if the old claymore really is appreciated - we can also make it so that the new one gets a copy / paste of the stats - and is placed in the vendors stores. - but the OLD one remains in the mod ( no vendor ) - so those gaian GS flying become ( rare ) ships - if you switch to the new one, you loose the old one, never to be purchased again. - until it really becomes a relic of old times.
Kevin, you know what had the discussions of Claymore remodel/rebalance caused in faction chats every time - as well as we talked about it. Uh, concerning the original - yes, it's great with no doubts. New one as well.

Sounds like a great idea, to be honest. I expect the increased prices on second-hand Claymores.
If the option is open to retain the original for current owners, then I'm more open to the change.
& as I've said many times before in the NLH chat before I left, if the design has to change in order to allow for an improvement in stats, I'm cool with minor tweaks to the look, but my primary concern was that the changes erased from history what once existed before.
I'm not opposed to an evolution of the design over time, that's perfectly peachy...I just don't wanna see the 'retro' aspect of the Gaian aesthetic ripped away.
