Wait, is the 1,000 light years written down somewhere or hearsay?

' Wrote:From the wiki:

the Sirius Sector - a super-cluster of stars about 500 light years away from Sol.

Realistically, it's already been seen....some 300 ingame yrs ago.

discowiki fails at this point

Sirius is 8.6 lightyears away from the earth (RL-wikipedia ftw)

so big poof is visible ~8y7mon after nomads pewd.

EDITED

edit2:

except they found a new "sirius" or names another thing with the same name what astro guys normally never do.

most logical i think would be that the "sirius sector" is the space around the star sirius.

Something I didn't have time to do at work...

http://www.discoveryfl.com/wiki/index.php/Sirius

"the Sirius Sector - a super-cluster of stars about 500 light years away from Sol "

So even under the absolute BEST case scenario, the light from Sol going boom reached us in Sirius over 300 years ago...

Ok, so let's say the time has passed. I'll stab a guess that the governments know about that Sol explosion. They must have kept an eye on that general direction in-case of an invasion force.

Would the people hold memorial for Sol? Like a week of Exile or something to remember where we came from? And not to repeat the mistakes of the past?

I dunno, we have remember veterans/heroes for wars.

If you answered no, then congratulations you probably deserve a place on the plot development team for discovery. Go forth and develop many nonsensical plot lines.

Because the Nomad that destroyed Sol was huge, bigger then the planet they were fighting over if I remember right (Haven't seen the intro in a while)

When whatshisface told the governments about the giant alien, they figured that they would be able to detect something that big if it even got anywhere close.

But the thing is, Nomads of today's standards are minuscule compared to that mega-weapon, and not as easy to detect, hence why the Governments were caught off guard.

@Russell

Atticus Rockford

It would be,an idea to hold a memorial.

Since the Sol war was so big, it would be an idea to have everyone make a soldier and write a short bio about said soldier in one thread for RP Purposes or,something.

Just an idea.

And yeah, it was bigger than Pluto.

By Sirius's standards, its bigger than Maine.

But if it does come, we are allscrewed.

Order might know of it.

But um...

Yeah, it kinda decided to rape Toledo and 80% of the fleet.

I always figured they already know.

Since we're talking about the extended intro as a part of canon Disco lore, which then means whoever escaped to Sirius told the settlers about it. Even if they don't believe him, there'll still be rumours which circulate around this topic.

I don't have a clue as to how far Sirius is from Sol, so I can't answer that one.

More speculation. Where is the fact? Where is the lore? Where are the infocards, the rumors the news articles?

Remember the Nomad Suncrusher litterally appeared out of thin air (or space, in this case? Can you even get thin space?) How could the governments be content enough to sit back and let an alien race mind**** civilisation if they knew these things could cloak and/or transwarp through space if they knew about them.

It just doesn't make sense. Freelancer's campaign, our lore, our facts, were based around the intro given to us on release, not the retconned extended intro. That was likely a beta intro, developed before Microsoft got DA's nuts in a vice. It is obsolete in the face of what we have, and shouldn't even be considered as even remotely canon.

Y'know, for those of you asking how far it is from Earth/Sol to Sirius, I did the calculations based on available data a long while back, when I was still an active member of the OSD here...

Since we can only go off of a mix of ingame/story references and try to compare them to nasa's (limited) information on our galaxy, that's the closest estimate you'll find.

I doubt you'd be seeing a supernova from Sol anytime soon. However, The Order already knew about Sol's destruction (as do the SCRA/coalition), it's just been a tightly guarded secret from the civilian populace.
