"I've always been partial to the XK-74. Good armor penetration, excellent refire rate and decent accuracy. Not that accuracy will be a big concern when your target is within arm's reach."
He picked up one of the rifles, slung it over his shoulder and several spare magazines. He grabbed several frag grenades, as well as a concussion grenade.
"Unfortunately, I can't reach Taalib like I can you. The Fedaykin are there are to protect Volkhan. They don't need communicators. However, he knows what is coming. Once he sees us start, he will spring into action. I just hope you remember what he looks like. Don't kill him, he's has his uses to me."
As he was about to walk away, he paused, turned back to the racks and slung a small calibre sub-machinegun over his other shoulder. He saw Viatcheslav looking at him in what he could only guess was a quizzical manner.
"Armor or not," The machine replied, "The biggest weapon will clear a room the fastest."
A pistol-like weapons was extracted from one of the holsters strapped to his hip and flourished about the tip of his index finger. A bananaclip protruded from in front of the trigger. The sides of the clip were braced by thin strips of metal, the larger bullets clearly visible. "This is one of my personal favorites. The boys call it a bolter. I call it death incarnate. The rounds essentially fire a shaped charge into the target, giving it armor penetrating attributes."
Ulrich nodded, either with approval or understanding, Via could not ascertain. Thinking little of it, he extracted two man-portable anti-tank missiles, a standard shotgun, and a bandolier of grenades. All of these were strapped to his back, not at all looking ungainly due to his massive size.
Turning to Ulrich, he took on a more professional stance, "How do you think we should go about doing this? The shortest route is the most guarded and of course, the least guarded route is one that is the scenic route. Guards or not, they'll soon swarm in if we take our sweet time."
"THE HULL HAS BEEN BREACHED AND THESCIENCEIS LEAKING OUT!"
"I was thinking something more subtle than the standard kill them all fare."
Eichel pulled out a couple of concussion grenades used for disabling combatants holed up in buildings.
"We make it seem as if Coalition forces are storming the mine. Once Volkhan realizes his defenders are dwindling, he'll have no choice but to let us inside his chamber to aid in defense. That's where these come in. They're completely useless against you, and this marine power armor I'm wearing will absorb much of it. The Fedaykin on the other hand won't fare so well."
The machine grabbed a few of the grenades as well, only for Ulrich's sake. "Then I have the perfect location for this assault." Turning away from him, Via lumbered out of the armory, making his way to a ventilation shaft. Carefully, he extracted a few of the grenades from his bandolier, stringing the pins together with a copper wire. The panel was then wretched from the wall.
"This shaft runs down thirty meters. If I time it right, I can have these grenades explode by the barracks. The concussion should daze a few people and cause mass confusion." The pins were pulled and a few mental seconds ticked by until the grenades were dropped into the shaft.
Without hesitation, Via wheeled about and walked away hastily, unholstering both of his bolter pistols as he went. "I suggest you beat feet, Comrade. The pressure from standing in front of that vent will be quite miserable, even in armor," He said sarcastically as he powerwalked away.
"THE HULL HAS BEEN BREACHED AND THESCIENCEIS LEAKING OUT!"
Ulrich briskly walked over to the stairwell leading to the central command centre. Just as the crescendo of explosions from Via's grenade attack went off in the barracks, he pulled the pin on two grenades and threw them up into the nerve centre of Volkhan's last refuge. The sudden burst of commotion from the initial blasts was quickly drowned out by another impressive explosion, followed by silence.
"I suggest we make our way down to Volkhan's chamber before he holes up and fortifies. Otherwise, we might as well see if any of the mining equipment left in here still works."
Without waiting for the machine to respond, Ulrich began walking down the corridor leading towards an aging set of steps dug out of the cave wall, leading towards the lower levels of the mine. A klaxon alarm began ringing throughout the complex.
He quickly dialed up the frequency to Volkhan's guard, the fearsome Fedaykin.
"The traitors have launched an assault! The command centre has been obliterated. Viatcheslav and myself are coming to reinforce your position."
