Peace is an illusion. There's only compromise. And where's compromise, suspicion and opposition arises.

Ok, so how bout you connect that to the discussion we are having. I guess I could start spouting stupid, non-nonsensical philosophical bull too, doesn't make my arguments any better.
Kudos for your restraint in not locking this whizbang thread hours ago Zelot.
Divine, perhaps a refresher on "English Prime" might be in order;
In which case, your amazing observation becomes "Peace appears to an illusion in my opinion."
The "Curse of Isness" seems capable of derailing any rational or mutually beneficial discussion.
Case in point:
Quote:What? Where're people, there're different views, diverse egos and greed.
Possibly. "Communication is only possible between equals". I take this to mean that a consensus cannot be built unless people show a willingness to listen to each other's point of view.
Quote:Peace is an illusion. There's only compromise. And where's compromise, suspicion and opposition arises.
Allow me, please: "Peace seems an illusion in my opinion. I believe there is only compromise"... etc. As to the last part of the sentence, I'm not sure it can even be translated into E-Prime.
Quote:This is a video game forum. Discussion of serious things not having to do with video games, this is not the place for it.
While I understand the difficulty of policing and maintaining any semblance of order on these forums or even ingame (having been an admin previously), I still think that the above argument is not an especially good one to use. It can be used, but if so, then we may as well delete any sub-forum not explicitly related to freelancer or computer games in general.
I wouldn't mind seeing Flood deleted in all honesty, but it'd just spill over elsewhere. Of course, you could stick to only allowing plenty of silly topics instead, but half the time they're worse than seeing some potentially interesting and serious topics. It is more a waste of forum space and memory to see endless "lolwut!" or "i r ofended!" topics than something relatively interesting and reasonably thought out. Though unfortunately yes, those sorts of interesting topics often do get heated nevertheless.

Most certainly, sir/madam.
The point that I am trying to make, and that "English Prime" (You did visit the convenient link, didn't you?) attempts to make, is that statements seem to be less abrasive and inflammatory when they are identified as opinion, and not presented as "fact".
