When I woke up this morning I had a bad feeling about today's patrol. I tried to shake off the feeling during my healthy breakfast (Bear Claws with Chocolate Sprinkles and Coffee) but I couldn't get the thought out of my head. I got into my uniform and left my apartment and headed towards the launchpad.
I knew I was scheduled to patrol with Recruit Officer Zeeroi Talbot and Captain John Aryn today. Lets just say this did not exactly buoy my spirits. Though Zeeroi was only a recruit his combat skills were quite impressive. I felt a tad jealous that this recruit was so good and yet also was so young. As far as Captain Aryn, I wasn't sure what to make of him. Though he was my superior I have realized that he can be quite an odd character. You never really know whats gonna happen when he is around.
I decided to fly my Raven's Talon today since I knew Zeeroi would be in a Liberator and I was unsure as to what Captain Aryn would be flying since he is a tad unpredictable. I figured my Raven would be a good balance. Considering my evil coffeemaker/AI Cara was installed in my Warran bomber I was loathe to use that ship. It would be nice to actually enjoy this flight without listening to her mean spirited comments about my weight. That coffeemaker can really destroy your spirits after an extended period of time.
Anyway, enough about that devil coffeemaker of mine. I launched out to space from Manhattan and contacted my fellow LPI. We grouped up at Fort Bush after the customary run to pick up donuts and coffee at Sunbucks.
We caught sight of a rogue named Alex.Ripley. Zeeroi was the first in pursuit and demanded the rogue halt. Of course the Rogue was not amenable to that demand and kept running while calling out taunts to us. We eventually were able to disrupt his cruise engines and engaged him in a battle. He was quite a coward though and instead of facing us he docked at Rochester station.
Shortly after this, Captain Aryn and myself went to check out a contact in Cali. Captain Aryn had gotten a report of a rogue out by the JG in Cali. We headed that way but found no sign of this contact upon entering California. We eventually returned to New York and headed back to Fort Bush. Upon examining Long Range Scans we found a large group of Xenos heading towards New York from Colorado.
We made contact with these hostiles in the tradelane between Fort Bush and the Colorado Jumpgate. Seeing the odds were greatly against us Captain Aryn ordered us to abort. However our new recruit had already been engaged by the Xenos and we felt duty bound to fight and die by his side. After a short time first Captain Aryn's Guardian, then my Raven, and finally our recruit's Libby were destroyed.
I am now writing this log as I float through space in my escape pod. I can only hope that I and my comrades will eventually be rescued.
I have now floated through space for over a week and the comms from my comrades grow weaker as we drift farther and farther apart.
I glance at my instrument panel and notice my oxygen gauge is down to 1 hour. My mind goes into overdrive as I try to think of some way, anyway, out of this situation. As the oxygen levels drop I grow more at peace with my fate. I settle back in my seat and close my eyes. I know the end is near......................................................
............LPI escape pod?...........
............Do you read me?...............
............This is a DSE Mining Ship I have received your escape pods beacon...............
.............Hold on Officer, We will be there shortly.................
I wake up and am blinded by bright lights. I see movement and I ask,"Am I dead?"
"No Officer. You will be just fine. Though it was a close call you should recover fully." I heard a voice respond.
I look up and see a figure in a DSE uniform."Thank you friend. I will never forget this," I tell him and then slip back into unconsciousness.
