It's my sad duty to report the loss of another Officer today. An Officer by the name of J.D. Masket.
Yesterday while on patrol, he strayed a little far from the regular patrol routes and ended up in Kansas. I told him to get out of there, but he entered a strange cloud that scrambled his sensors and his ship lost power. I set course for Kansas to tow his ship back to base, I figured the jump hole he took must have knocked a circuit loose in his Liberator. I instructed him to divert power from his shields to his engines and reverse out of there... That's why things started to go south. He started behaving strangely.. seeing things in the lightning flashes of the nebula. He said his ship started to move on his own. I tried to calm the kid down, told him he was just being paranoid.
Once in Kansas, I located his becon and headed to his location, and decended down into the strange pink cloud. It made a mess of my sensors but I still had a lock on his location. In the distance through a lightning flash I saw a massive structure.. and Masket sat right in front of it. I've only seen something like that once before in my life... back when I freelanced the borderworlds. I figured it was just a ruin. As I approached, J.D. fell unconcious and the Liberator began to move again, it passed through the centre of the structure and disappeared completely. I wasn't going to let him go, though, I followed him through..
It was an experience like nothing I've ever felt before. The sheer speed of the jump threw me back into my seat, where ever this thing was taking us.. it was far - far away. We emerged in a pristine whitish blue system.. if memory recalls correct. The kid's ship was drifting off into the distance sideways, I managed to slow his ship to a halt, and bring J.D. back to conciousness. But his Liberator acted as if it had a mind of it's own.. it began to move at cruise speed towards the distant asteroid field. I fired cruise disruptors, but they had no effect. The kid was screaming for me to save myself, but I didn't want to let him go. I yelled for him to eject.. but he disappeared from the edge of my scanners...
The system was filled with radiation that was slowly eating away at my hull as I searched for sign of the kid. I stumbled across an unknown contact... as it came into visual range, I recognised the ship. One of those 'morphs' that have been showing up in Liberty recently... I guess it was curious, so it came closer. I demanded to know what they had done with the kid... it didn't respond. It began to fly away again, and so I pursued the ship along a series of strange alien structures.. it almost looked like a trade lane, but it was inoperable. The alien lead me down the path to a jump hole at the end. I threatened to crush it's life out if it didn't give me back J.D. .. I don't know if it understood me, but it knew I was a threat because it retreated quickly. Once again my Disruptors failed and I was left with nothing... The radiation was slowly eating through my hull, so I risked taking the jump hole, see where it lead me. And.. much to my surprise the jump hole deposited me straight into Pennsylvania. Though, the flight back to Philadelphia station was certainly a long one. I docked and made repairs before returning to Fort Bush. I checked over my flight data and navigational systems, but they show no record of the Jump Gate or the unknown system. I'm unsure whether or not I would be able to retrace my flight path at this point.
I fear with this knowledge.. it might be safer for me to disappear into the Omicrons for another few years.
