Just wait and see - the Disco community is very different than EVE, when people lose stuff here or get killed they go on the forum and demand admin action! People will gank you viciously, then go on the forum and talk about how they never gank and how it is morally wrong and get away with a saintly image of themselves intact. EVE is more "honest" that way, players have nothing to gain from being hypocritical and self-serving.
When you claim something it is not yours to keep for as long as you can back it up/defend it like in EVE, here people will tell you they are the kings of the universe and you must do their bidding, and even though they rarely play or cannot at all back up their claims in game they will point you to their background story and say "hey it's all right there, why don't you rp? Now kiss my boots".
Disco lacks some of that dynamic cut-throat "space is dangerous" vibe from EVE, because that actually ensures fairness. In EVE everyone is given the same tools from the start, the difference is how you utilize them in-game, whereas it is not at all like that here on Disco where shoulder-rubbing and circle-jerking is Alpha and Omega as in-game actions are probably one of the least effective ways to ensure things go your way (yes, start collecting them SKYPE addresses ASAP ).
That being said it's a fun game, but don't expect too much of it.

It may be that I haven't been playing long, but so far I have been having a blast. Im honestly DISSAPOINTED when I spend 4 hours plying the trade lanes and never encounter a pirate! It ads an element of excitement to the mundane task, and a few times I have had a blast managing to escape from them using some clever maneuvering (drifting lazily to the left helps a lot!) and split second timing.
I think that the thing that makes a serious difference in EVE is that when your ship explodes, its GONE, along with everything that was in it and on it. Here, you only lose whatever was in your cargo. You would think that would make people more willing to take risks, and less upset when they lose, but I guess it doesn't matter to some.
Another big difference is that people in EVE don't generally roll play. I liked EVE, but it just took up too much of my time. It was like a second job, whereas here, the gameplay is much simpler to get into, and easier to walk away from (unless you are trying to maintain a station, that is). And not to mention that this is free (although I will be making a donation as soon as I get some cashes).
All in all, I have found people to generally be very helpful, and patient, as I flood these forums with posts full of questions and confusion about various subjects.
Now if I could just get my Bretonia and IMG bouty registrations approved, I would be all set (day 3).

Feel free to inform me when you're trading and I'll pirate you.
