Book Cover

Hello,

I'll just put it up front and basic.

My friend and I are writing a book and we need a cover. I've tried, but it seems I'm lacking the skills for what we're looking for. If ANYBODY at all would be willing to take a stab at making us a book cover, that we be WONDERFUL!

Here's the details:

Preferred details - A space battle. HUGE armies of spaceships about to collide head on in full battle. They can be shooting or not, (shooting and explosions would be cool but probably take way too much time) but they cant be intermixed. It's the humans versus super advanced aliens if that helps. Then possibly a sun and a planet somewhere.

Second option - A space scene, we would really like to have some sort of space ship in there, perhaps one based on the ship in the book, Rivaura. Its a smuggling ship. Example would be Serenity/Firefly... I don't want to copy them, just the ship needs to have that type of texture.

Dimensions - FOR NOW - 8.5'' x 11'' (Sheet of paper)... however it may need to be resized so try not to put any SUPER important pictures right on the edges.

TEXT- Book title RIVAURA. (lower or upper case)

Sub Text (anywhere) Dylan Durrant and Evan Rae

I will pay you in Freelancer credits depending on how much we like it, so if you make one, please be prepared to have us give you tweaks and changes so WE like it. be prepared for changes.

Your name will be included in the title page of the book as the cover artist.

What kind of "book?" PDF, electronic or one your actually going to print?

If physical, how many pages do you reckon you will have?
Do you have spine dimensions?
Do you have a local printer sorted out?

Oh yes, thanks for asking, I totally forgot about those types of details.

As of now (we are probably a third of the way through) it will probably be electronic, possibly going to PDF format. However, when we finish I plan on printing a couple copies from the local Staples. They will print and bind copies for you, and I'm fairly sure you can give them a cover.

Spine Dimensions- I'm not sure. We are aiming for 150-200 pages with the single spaced 8.5 x 11 page format we are using to type. If the dimensions change on the book, I would not be sure how thick it would be.

PLUS since we are just teens writing this, we don't really expect it to get really published or go very far. We'll probably just print of some copies to show family and friends etc.

So having your name on the title page may not be as huge as it seems.

As of now, I don't think we'll be needing a Spine or back image, just a front.

Have you got a colour theme in mind?
What kind of planet do you want? Rings? no rings? red like mars? Peaceful and blue/green like earth? Some odd looking different planet?

How alien are the aliens? Are they like...aggressive? peaceful? Organic? Robot aliens?

Do you want nebulas in the space scene?

Do you want the fleets facing each other and we have a side on view or do you want the vantage point from either side? (i.e. in amongst the fleet facing the opposing fleet.)

All good questions, I'll start from the top.

We didn't really have a colour theme in mind in general. Just perhaps the human ships would be great/blue (sort of like LSF).

The planet should be an earth like planet- definately livable, and if it looks better, perhaps a moon as well.

No rings on the planet.

The aliens are super aggressive and super high tech and non robot. Hope that explains it, for their ships just anything that looks high-tech, maybe black and silver.

No nebulas.

This last question brings up an interesting idea. At first I was thinking side view with a fleet on each side and a planet in the background/middle.

However, if it is possible, I think it would be cool to have a vantage point amongst the alien fleet. Facing - in the near distance - a human blockade/fleet in front of a human like planet. As if they are guarding it. Does that mak sense?

Oh yes! That concept looks great! That's almost the exact image i had in my head!

I think it looks like it, but I'm not sure on the sketch, I just think if there are Big ships like cruisers and stuff mixed in with little fighters on each side, that would be great. Well maybe not the Vantage point side because you probably won't be able to fit a ton of ships in on that side, but on the blockade side (the further one back) should have big and little. I hope that's not too much to ask.

Just remember the vantage point side are the super agressive aliens and the ships near the planet that are further back are humans, if that makes a difference.

EDIT: Oh, I forgot to add, if making shooting and explosions and such takes too much time or is WAY too much work (I imagine it is a lot of work) you could leave it out and just have the ships look like they are ready to shoot. But if you do have time, shooting/lasers/missiles would be cool.

EDIT AGAIN: Ok, I don't know how I forgot this... and I really hope this one thing can work out.

I don't know if you are making custom looking ships or anything, but if I could have one ship that stands out from the rest. It's the main characters' ship called "Rivaura" Maybe if it was in the top left corner, but just transparent-ish as if it's not in the battle, just showing.

Or, if there is a way that you can make in on the Human side, facing the Vantage point looking like it's going straight forward, ready to win. However, I want it to stand out from the others, so I'm not sure if there is a way to do that in the battle scene. I suppose it could be option one.

I am really sorry if I am just overwhelming you with ideas and thoughts, I'm just having random thoughts here and there. If at any point this is getting way to complicated for you, please, let me know and I'll try and eliminate some of the details I've given you to make it simpler.
