I was wondering do the Hogosha have thier own line of ships separate from the Junkers? I was thinking they dont seem to be the scavengers or the smugglers the Junkers are, being they are found in only one house.
So what else might they fly and what is thier mission?
Maybe the Kusari Lux liner fits them. Any other ideas or stuff that would be good to know?
They just seem under played and lack possiblity due to isolationism.
Anything to enlighten me or, flesh out Hogosha would be nice other wise I see them as a back ground nobody at the moment.
I hope to be wrong. Other wise I will have to think of something. Cant stand to see Hogosha being empty and unrepresented.
The Hogosha tend to bribe, deceive and otherwise use corruption to further their own goals. They are the mafia of Kusari, except even more secretive and powerful. Doubt they would fly large ships.

Scavengers - no.
Smugglers - yes, huge ones.
They are dirty rich due to Artifact smuggling in Kusari.
They also hate Junkers because they see them as a threat.
Junkers are not allowed in Kusari because of them.

They can fly a CSV as NPC's, but that's just stupid, since they are not scavengers.
They can fly fighters and smuggling vessels.
Hogosha is getting a new sexy VHF in 4.85, check the developer section and find it.

Well, yes, it's great for Hogosha. It really depends on your RP.
If you are RP-ing a bigshot - then yes, it fits.

Actually, in these 2 days I'v played I'v seen 3 different Hogosha indies online.

Here's their brief history
Hogosha translates literally as "guardian" or "protector," reflecting the organization's rather romantic view held not only by its own members, but by a large portion of the Kusari population -- though by no means the majority. Far from protectors, the Hogosha are actually descendents of the organized crime syndicates that grow within the shadow of any sizable human society -- though the Hogosha have an oddly symbiotic relationship with both the government and Samura.
Their political connections would make any serious attempt to dismantle them an embarrassment to Kusari as any number of secrets and deals that had been kept out of the public eye came to light. However, neither do the Hogosha have a free license to operate. Arrests of low-level Hogosha operators who flaunt their activities are frequent and help keep up appearances -- very important in Kusari. "Hard" crime, such as drug smuggling, is not tolerated.
Individual opinions vary, but most police consider the Hogosha a necessary evil required for the smooth functioning of Kusari society. The government simply treats the Hogosha like any other large keiretsu. The Kusari population as a whole has a similar attitude: It is pointless to like or dislike the Hogosha; they are simply a fact of life.
The Hogosha handle Artifact and gun smuggling and the fencing of stolen goods. They also do occasional dirty work for Samura. They view the Blood Dragons as a major threat to their existence and have engaged in turf wars with them, mostly in the asteroid fields of Tokyo. The Golden Chrysanthemums are a new problem, as they have few qualms about dealing in the drug trade or its consequences. Since they have no corruptible leaders or long associations with Samura or the Kusari government and police, The GC -- like the Blood Dragons -- are dangerous to the Hogosha way of life. They view the Junkers as their only real competitors within the Sirius Sector, and their only obstacle to expansion into the other Houses. They have approached the Corsairs to assist them in their plan, although no concrete steps have been taken.
The Hogosha made a recent arrangement to purchase Artifacts directly from the Corsairs on the cruise ship Hawaii, a move that infuriated the GMG, who formerly served as the middleman between the two crime syndicates. It also raised the ire of the LSF, who applied pressure on Orbital Spa to deny landing privileges to the two factions.

It's not just a big ship, it's a symbol of luxury, and that is something that mafia boss would fly.
But for example, flying a cruiser is out of the question.

Wow thanks Chopper for the Hogosha lesson. I havent seen any players yer but then Kusari space is not where the Harvesters head often cept for rep fixing.
As a side note. Did you now the Kusari lux liner has a reverse speed of 60kps?
My hogosha flies a kusari gunboat, as well as gen'yosha_rinjin.
Hogosha has power everywhere in kusari. They have a large amount of influence in the kusari navy, the kusari government, the police, and samura. Samura constructs all large vessels produced by kusari - so it isnt a stretch that a wealthy hogosha (mine inherited a large sum of money from his late father) could procure a gunboat-class vessel.
The Hogosha ID allows up to battleship, but so does the junker ID, and I dont think either faction needs access to anything over gunboat size.
The hogosha are getting a 'black dragon' VHF in 4.85, which I cant wait for, might make a second character for it or switch my gunboat to it.
Yup.
And just to add that Hogosha hate GC and BD. They are the main reason for Hogosha's armament.
Also, Hogosha can take care of destroying Brettonian supplies in Leeds for Samura and Kusari government.
I'v done it quite a few times.
Destroying supplies = pirating.

In modern day Japan, the really big Yakuza bosses are still feared by government and business leaders. Yakuza presently force Japanese national corporations to support and retain them and in return provide corporate security and intelligence.
Please don't "two-dimensionlize" them--as so many do here with factions they are "experts" on but never play. Let people invested in the Hogosha define them rather than pundits in other factions who have little interest in them.
A Yakuza boss running a luxury liner or corporation is entirely plausible. And if you incorporate pre-WWII Japanese business culture, the Yakuza could literally have direct influence in government affairs.
This is one of the rare in-game factions based on a direct historical type--there is a lot to work with from that.
Historically, Yakuza have fielded troops and police for their daiymos and shoguns and after the Kobe earthquake a few years back, the Yakuza raised one million volunteers and $100 million dollars in relief efforts in the first twenty four hours after the quake. There was not a single incident of looting reported--not one--before government forces arrived becasue they Yakuza operated all local relief and police and rescue efforts until government forces arrived.
Just like all Junkers can't be just "scrap collectors", Hogosha are not just "simple thugs and hooligans".
A Talarca cruiser would be a good ship for a powerful Yakuza clan leader or headquarters and even the Samura explorer is a possibility.

I see you are very well informed. Or not. Maybe you should get informed?
My first Hogosha character was made in November 2007. Thank you.
Also, it's not nice to insult people unprovoked. My first "expert" thing was a joke, which you would surely know if you spent more time reading this board.

Go ahead, dedicated fella.
Also, you are probably NOT aware of the fact that Hogosha faction existed for a while. And that I was a part of it.
If you are so dedicated, why don't you start a Hogosha faction? I'v been waiting for it to happen for 6 months.
I also have no idea why you started this "Hogosha contest".

Agreed, the Hogosha have become my new favorite faction. They can be conveyed as criminals, but they are criminals that work for their government; and they have kusari's interests and prosperity at the top of their priority list.
The hogosha can also be seen as the 'xenos' of kusari; not in that they lost their jobs, but that they hate outsiders. To them, anyone who is not kusari is an enemy, and the government, samura, farmer's alliance, and navy/police will back them on it.
As a hogosha, I can pirate a foreign trader, and then turn around and play 'lawful' by wiping out other pirates in kusari space that arent loyal to the kusari nation (i.e. dragons, GC, outcasts, etc.)
And then, on another front, I can play a smuggler and businessman. The kusari government doesnt pay attention to the hogosha's smuggling activities so long as there are no drugs involved, and the hogosha are -very- adamant about keeping cardamine and other drugs out of kusari space and away from it's people.
