During the actions and operations conducted in the month of August, Feldwebel Michael Schmidt has distinguished himself in the eyes of OKM. His continued persistence and dogged determination has pushed Feldwebel Schmidt to the forefront of every major engagement participated in by the Primary Fleet in recent weeks. In light of his inspiring effort, OKM sees fit to issue a field promotion, effective immediately, regarding Fähnrich Schmidt.
As detailed above, the recent battles the Fähnrich found himself in were of unprecedented intensity and vigor. In addition to countless damaged scores and both confirmed and unconfirmed kills, Schmidt most recently defended Planet Hamburg from a Liberty task force, composed of more then fifteen capital ships, in a furious firefight. Schmidt covered the regrouping friendly forces by, without hesitation, sinking two dreadnaughts. The Libertonian ships were sunk in rapid succession by the means of only a light bomber and well placed antimatter fire on the part of Schmidt.
This timely action saved the lives of many on board the cruisers Wildekatz and Deutschland, as well as the carrier Forseti. Due to the harsh fire laid down by Schmidt and the remaining cruisers, the main Rheinwehr fleet was able to regroup. After several minutes a determined assault by the regrouped fleet achieved a victory in the face of uneven odds. This counterattack would not have been possible without the Fähnrich's actions. His actions were in keeping with the highest traditions of the Rheinland Military.
The Fähnrich is awarded the Knight's cross 3rd class for gallantry.
