There's the kushan bomber, admittedly it's missing a torpedo mount, but it can still dish out enough firepower to seriously cripple any NPC cap-ships you find.
Personally I'd suggest turning a freighter into a bomber by mounting a either 2 or 3 missiles launchers on it and then using plasma or tachyon turrets, why? because they are great against graviton shields and the slower refire means your energy will be starting to recharge by the time the second shot gets fired.
Advantages of using a freighter as a bomber are loads of armour, guns, better shield, more bots and batts, massive cargo hold. Bad points, might not be as agile, no torpedo mounts.

I am always interested and trying out new ships. I tried the bombers out and didn't like them but, I always appreciate seeing everyone elses oppinions about ships I might want to try. I am currently on the cruiser kick for now. Gonna go out and try a few ships I never see flying. I think I will buy an asteroid miner next. I like to be in the ship no one else ever sees.

Cos it's a flying brick, it can't fight off NPCs very well unless you mount missiles on it. It flys thru asteroid fields worse then a battleship, and it takes ages to line up with a lane too.

Tain, it is not important the date. If he wants to post in a 2 years old post, let him. As long as he doesnt go Off Topic, it is ok.
Also, dont tell people where and werent to post here. There are moderators for that.

Sure. If that's your policy then I expect you'll be telling other people too.
