Aeternus told me to collect some data about mining because he cannot work with "it doesn't work", "it is uber-slow" statements.
Please provide the following data!
EDIT: DO ONLY USE ONE (1) MINING LASER!!!

With firm data, AD can check what is wrong, whether there is something wrong.
====== EXPLANATIONS ABOUT HOW THE MINING SYSTEM WORKS ========
Quote:I talked to AD and did some more tests.
Knowing more about the whole system, gives some insights that I can share, I guess.
I would ask faction leaders to rerun their tests after that, but under more controlled conditions to really check whether it works as intended, because actually it seems to be okay. "Feeling" is kind of... misleading.
THE FORMULA:
The formula of mining (courtesy to AD for explaining it to me):
(random drop per ore: 1-5) x (field modifier: 1) x (faction mining bonus)
Each rock can drop: 0,1,2,3,4,5 ore, depending on how mined out it is.
1-5 untouched fields
1-3 midlevel mined fields
1-1 mined out fields
Field modifier: can be ignored mostly, as it generally is "1". Could be heightened for events, etc. And is lower than 1 for fields that are turned off.
Factions that have: mining IFF, mining ID, mining ship, mining laser, shooting their ores in a mining zone... get a mining bonus. It's dependant on the faction, so check what you can mine for which bonus.
Clear now? I did not know all of this.
Consequences:
AVERAGE DROPS
The average drop in an untouched field that is not turned off is:
(1 to 5) x (faction multiplier).
Example: x3 faction multiplier => minimum: 3 per ore; maximum: 15. Average: ~ 9 (some zero hits occur)
This is for untouched fields, if you use 1 laser only!
DOUBLE HITS:
If you use another laser that has the same distance to the rock, you get between 25-50 % increase because you can double-hit the same rock. That's where some of the discrepancies in testing come from. Additional turrets increase the yield a little.
This is a major flaw when testing that created some of the big discrepancies and wrong impressions!
TESTING METHOD:
So, if you want to test your fields, do the following:
> go to a field that is turned on
> and that no one mines in (so it has range 1-5)
> shoot 50 rocks with 1 laser to eliminate double hits
> Also check your max hit per drop (with 1 laser!) because that tells you whether your field works correctly. If you e.g. score a hit ot 18 in a x3 field, something is weird.
Going over the variables posted and taking into account the sources of mistakes, I think most of the values were in the range of "could be okay"?
Check your own fields, while keeping in mind the mechanis, behind it and how to find out whether it is in the range of "could be okay".
> Field location: Tau 23, B2/3, SW field = Position -27857 7 -27030 Orient 12 54 1
> Mined commodity: Niobium
=> Shoot 50 rocks:
- max hit: 35
- average hit (ore in cargo hold divided by 50): 12,4 / rock
> Field location: Tau 37, B3/4 = Position -26877 0 -8677 Orient 0 43 0
> Mined commodity: Niobium
=> Shoot 50 rocks:
- max hit: 37
- average hit (ore in cargo hold divided by 50): 17,9 / rock
Aet: Max hit should be: 8 (base field) * 1 (field multiplier) * IMG bonus (4) = 32. Double hits can raise this slightly, so the max seems accurate enough. I'll have to doublecheck what has changed to make people think mining is so slow, because all the values reported here check out to be working as designed thus far...

IFF: GMS
Mining Turrets Used: Heavy Mining Turrets.
Field Location: Beryllium Fields T23. First one by northern of the 2 Asteroid Miners and second one by the southern of the two.
Mined Commodity: Beryllium
With 50 shots average by northern AM was 8.54/rock
With 50 shots average by southern AM was 12.96/rock
I didn't spend time watching each shot to see what the max was as everything wants to shoot me.
Not sure if it is necessary to do the fields within Gallia as I don't know if they have been activated.
