The installer is not working properly. Many files are not being copied and this results in multiple problems, such as shields not showing in space and rooms being inaccessible on bases.
I have extracted all the files from the executable using 7-Zip and many turn out to be missing. When looking at the installer using FileAlyzer I can see that the files do actually exist inside the archive, although this program does not allow their extraction.
I am using Windows Vista with an administrator account. The original game and Discovery 4.85 are working without a problem. I have downloaded the installer three times already and I simply cannot keep doing this as I have limited bandwidth.
The original Freelancer installation is not relevant here. The problem is that the files are not being extracted properly, regardless of where or how I install or extract them. There are no other programs running when the installation takes place, not even an anti-virus or 3rd-party firewall. The system is also free of malware according to my plethora of on-demand security applications.
Archive viewed using FileAlyzer. Notice that the missing 3db files are listed here (highlighted).
Unfortunately, this application has no extraction capabilities.
Suffice to say, the problem here is with the installer and how individual applications go about viewing and/or extracting the contained files.
I've downloaded it three times and there has been no difference. If it was corrupted then it is highly likely that the application would fail to execute.
Right, I think I've cracked it! I haven't tested it yet but the latest version of 7-Zip has successfully extracted all of the files, including those which were previously missing. Looking good!
i dont understand what it is your trying to do, by not just performing the default way of installing, why are you using 7zip or file analyzer
what i was asking was
if you followed the default install step is that when your seeing the problems
are are you manually installing 4.87 be extracting the files and moving over
when i said fresh mod free freelancer installed, you have got that? as the mod install copies over every file it needs from "microsoft games/freelancer" folder and then installs 4.87 over the top into the 4.87 folder eg "AppData\Local\Discovery Freelancer 4.87.0"
