how much can be edited

Just asking because i want to change a couple of sounds, and perhaps colours of some things, so how much can be changed before the anti cheat prog kicks in?

with the sounds i guess its fine to do anything aslong as its a certain sound filetype and frequency? is there a list of what sound do what for in game?

as for the colours/hud etc , i have no idea about how to make my own is there a tutorial or some kind of gui that i can use?

perhaps i worded it wrong, all i want to do is experiment with using different colours for the guns and the icons, just to make my own, and use my own sound effects, i just dont know how

My advice is that if you don't know what you're doing, don't do it. Some things can be modified, such as textures and sounds, and compatibility problems should be minimal. However, as soon as you start editing configuration files and models you'll be prodding the anti-cheat system and that ain't a good idea. The HUD and icons shouldn't be a problem, but you should stay clear of editing the models of anything which might appear in space.

I haven't modded Freelancer for some years now so I can't help you with links to resources, but at a glance the sounds should be easy since they're of the wave format.

Make backups, make your own lan server, modify files and see if anti cheat bans you. I don't know much about editing files, but models and stats modifies will trigger auto ban.

With that in mind, if you do set-up your own server then make sure you use a separate installation for playing the game than that which the local server uses. If you use the same installation as the server then you couldn't possibly get booted. In any case, the official server likely has its own anti-cheat system which is not included in the mod, so you'll only be able to go on what the game engine decides to do, therefore the results may differ on-line.

i didnt say i wanted to modify models and stats, thats not what i posted about, its just a small visual and audio bit, like my own sounds, and possible change some icons, cross hair/hud things
