SUBJECT: PR 05/05/823
This is Ensign Reed Icarus.
Reporting on the events which occured during my third and fourth combat patrols.
At 0130 hours I undocked from West Point and rendezvoused with Ensign Hirlerman. We headed for Pennsylvania and intercepted a Junker Frigate (callsign Orchestra) hauling over 3,000 passengers. I informed him of the Liberty trade regulations concerning passenger transport, and thankfully, he complied without combat. We escorted the vessel to Manhattan, where the Orchestra docked and did not return to space.
Shortly afterward, Ensign Hirlerman and I finished our sweep of Pennsylvania and headed to the California system. Waiting on the California side of the gate were two Hellfire Legion Guardians (callsign [HF]-Crimson.2 and [HF]-Stoneheart), who instructed me to pass a message along to HC. I impetuously offered to just get rid of them myself, and a dogfight ensued in which my Executioner and Ensign Hirlerman's Guardian were destroyed by Stoneheart. I severely underestimated his combat abilities; I assumed I would have the upper hand due to the Executioner's superior agility, but Stoneheart proved the better pilot. He mentioned something about not killing us because we were cadets at the time (This was shortly before our promotions).
Our pods were tractored later by a passing Navy patrol, and I grabbed some chow on West Point while I waited for a replacement ship.
I was back in action in time to meet up with Lt. Reeves, Ensign Hirlerman, Commander Burnet, the Plymouth Rock and the Bristol just as they vaporized a rogue destroyer above Detroit Munitions, with Commander Burnet scoring the kill. From there the fleet headed toward Manhattan, and I docked there for a break as I was not feeling well. I think I'm coming down with something... my late wife always called it a man-cold. Anyway...
Once the rogue dreadnought was allowed to leave, the Hellfire Cruiser disappeared from our scopes, and I followed the fleet back to New York. Commodore Hunter asked for volunteers to assist with hunting down a rogue destroyer (callsign DeathCollector) which was spotted in Liberty space. The rest of the fleet docked and I switched to my new Upholder before heading to the California system ahead of Commodore Hunter in the LSC Ignition.
I spotted the destroyer heading away from Planet Mojave into the asteroid field and gave chase. I was able to prevent their escape until Commodore Hunter's LSC arrived, at which point the destroyer opened fire and we vaporized it. I managed to make the killshot while the Ignition's firing crew was charging the main gun.
By this time I was feeling pretty well exhausted and ended my shift on West Point.
