Okay, so the wartime piracy line was removed from corporate IDs that previously had it (note: Haven't tested all IDs, but since IDs have been standardized to such an extent, I assume it will be similar across the board).
I don't have much experience with corporate piracy. I've never once been pirated by a corporate ID'd ship, and I've only ever committed said piracy on one ship, a Republican Behemoth.
Throughout my time, I have not seen any evidence of widespread abuse of this ID rule, so I must ask: why was it removed?
To draw a parallel here: Currently, all unlawful and quasi-legal IDs, including Freelancer and Junker are essentially free game for almost everyone in most situations, and many people have complained about this, with a common counterargument being "it should be tested in practice before it is condemned".
Well, we've had practical experience with the theoretical possibility of corporate piracy for a long, long time now, and as far as I can tell it hasn't adversely affected the game, so I would like to see this possibility opened again.
I think it was never attempted much because corporate piracy, when enacted the same way as standard piracy, was highly impractical. For example, USI could pirate RepEx and other Rheinlandic corporations; but to do so effectively, they'd need to have a staging point in Rheinland... but since they're also hostile to the local unlawfuls, they have extremely limited options.
However, I know that some (all?) corporate IDs now have lines permitting them to attack factions which are enemies of their House within their ZoI. It's not quite the same, but it still provides some options. Since (most) corporations don't (publically) operate private armies, guerilla warfare against business opponents is probably not a very good allocation of resources.
These are just my personal thoughts - the Admins are the ones who have the final call on IDs.
Agree with Echo 7- 7, Not all can do Corporate Piracy directly inRP most of the can do it by hiring some Freelancer or Mercenaries or Junkers to do it. That is how it is possible. But yes, some faction can do it themselves but on the condition it should be done outside the house space.
I don't see why for example, a Liberty corporation would have to go to Rheinland to effectively pirate Rheinland traders - I'm not talking about organized raids either, more opportunistic targeting, generally in neutral houses.
As in, the USI guy happens to cross a Rheinland trader in Kusari, and decides their cargo might be better off in the hands of Liberty.
Of course, pirating within neutral house space would mean risking to antagonize that house.
The "can engage" clause is not very useful since that would require a trade ship to actually be present in a house it's hostile to, which won't happen very often.
Karst is absolutely right here, what's wrong with Bowex pirating some Gaul shippers? Was that privilege overused by corporations, or what? Bring us back our piracy, please.
