suggestion 1.
civilian id's are valid up until level 40.
abuse of this rule is rife.
is it possible to make it so that the civilian id cannot tractor in if the player level is 40 and above?
suggestion 2.
seen a few punishments for re-engaging recently
my suggestion is that for a player above level 40 [who really should know the rules by then] who is killed by <strike>me</strike> another player, they cannot log into that character for four hours. i stress that it is not the account that is temporarily blocked, but a character.
pro's:
no re-engagement violations
no traders saying 'kill me i respawn'
there is a real penalty for dieing, much like real life, only less... terminal
con's:
hard to code (?)
might put people off joining the server
EDIT: instead of temp-block, how bout an automatic beam to ny/cambs/nb/nt/*gulp* new paris (whichever is furthest, and if equidistant, a random choice, possibly based on even/odd second value of second 'hand' of system clock of server)
this would simulate the time taken to retrieve escape pod, take another fighter out of storage/complete insurance paperwork on lost trader that you had rented, and be a complete pain in the whatsit.

The majority of people I see breaking this rule appear to be traders, who don't really use their tractor beams very often anyway.
Also, I doubt this would be doable within the mod files, especially since there are several other servers that use this mod. A tool similar to FLHook could be created, I suppose, but that would mean something else interacting with flserver, which is already under a lot of strain here.

The concept is good, but there is a small flaw with that. Not everyone is a lawful player, nor do all players have only one character. In fact, the percentage that have only one is quite small, I'd wager. If it could be done based on the character's affiliation, it could work, but what happens if they either don't have an affiliation or the faction only has one base?
There are too many variables to make this completely fair for everyone.
Also, I don't think character-level bans are doable. Certainly not doable with flserver and IFSO as they are. FLHook, maybe...
(Side note: I really need to go to bed. I'm rambling)
