As some of you might know, recently there was an incident involving two players who mounted gunboat forward guns on battleships. This might seem a minor case, however it did develope into something more as admins deleted those weapons, due to other players complaining. Seems that serveral things need clarification.
1) No weapons in the mod should be far more efficient than others. If there is a balance problem, it should be reported and fixed. This applies to forward guns as well.
2) There is no rule - no rule yet - that prohibits mounting any weapons that can possibly be mounted on any ships (unless it's cheating, and in our case it's not). Do we need this rule? I don't know, but I doubt that. This is for further discussion.
Yeah, Jamez, but there aren't a lot of choices then for GB's and Cruisers. Most of the weapons I use on a gunboat are either Cruiser or Battleship because, well, gunboat weapons suck. On a cruiser I use Battleship, cruiser AND gunboat weapons. And on a Battleship... Well... I haven't had a BS in a while, so I don't know what I'd use.
You cut the diversity of weapons for capships into thirds.
Personally, I think its fine the way it is now. It took two battleships using gunboat FG's to kill one battleship. That says that the battleship weapons are still more powerful. Plus, gunboat FG's are incredibly hard to aim on a battleship, even against another battleship. I put six on a Nomad BS for fun, once, and I could only hit NPC battleships that were sitting still and only after a few tries...
Yeah they maybe hard to aim, but if you practise enough you can probably get pretty good at hitting your target, even if it's moving, more often then you miss it.
I think we need to make this a rule otherwise players with 'proper' pirate reps are gonna end stuck using the limited capship weps available while house faction players can mount 2 or 3 or 4 gunboat/cruiser forward guns on a BS.
It'll get so unbalanced people will get frustated and leave the server.
All the work put into making this mod balanced will have been a complete and utter waste of time.
If you think the BS turrets are next to useless either say so or try making some.
The current BS turrets are usable if you put a little time and effort into trying out different set-ups.
Here would be the solution to this problem then...
Make the two mounts on the Gunboat where the cannons are gun mounts, and make the gunboat cannons guns instead of turrets, like Angle said.
It's probobly not as easy as it sounds, but it would solve this little problem.

it is funny how nobody complains when people have fighter turrets on the battleship, but when they have gunboat guns that is a BIG problem....
some fighter turrets use small amount of power and cap ships can fire
constantly with bigger damage output then cruiesr turrets..but in that u dont see a problem....
how come one cruiser with 16 salamacas can easily kill another with 16
cruiser turrets...where is the balance there.
i use battleship flak cannon on my GB, and nobody says that is wrong, but if someone use GB fwd gun on BS that raises whole server...
how come one fighter with novas can kill a cruiser...novas should me mounted only on missleboats or bombers...
if u want to use rules about guns then use them on ALL players, ships and guns...not only on those few....
but so many rules can also kill any fun on this server...
take me for example...i really enjoy trying diferent setups on my ships trying to find one that best suits me or purpose of that ship.
in battle a lot of stuff depens on the pilot...but also on the ship as well....
Is it in any way possible to restrict mounting of out-of-class equipment on any ship?
Also, ONE fighter should NOT be able to pwn a battleship on it's own (even if it be Dab piloting it [not going at you Dab, but be realistic])... and I don't want to go repeating it all since it was said a million times - a lower class ship should not be able to take a higher class ship on it's own.
Can it be done like make class A (11) for gunboats, class B (12) for cruisers and class C (13) for battleships or something? possibly not as someone would have already made it, but I had to ask.
