So what do you expect?
When you engage in enemy territory, you're not expected to win unless you are extremely skilled/ have a fleet backing you (or the RP suggests that your enemy is weak). Docking to a friendly base shouldn't count as PVP death, think of docking-repairing-reengaging as a quick pit stop, which is imo a perfectly logical and a valid inrp tactic.
Same for fleeing - If you were a real space-pilot wouldn't you want to hide for a while and let your shields regen before you attempt to engage your enemy again? Ofc in the interest of honor etc, it is perfectly acceptable to have inrp faction rules regarding fleeing, but it just shouldn't be a server rule.
I know this rule is in the interest of a fair fight, but if you really want a fair fight then you could try using tactics (!) to lure your enemy away from his repairs. There are other ways to ensure fairness (such as a flhook timer for the minimum time spent docked before relaunch ala JG cooldown would be a good idea), but the last time I checked this is a RP server, not a PVP server and again imo rp>balance.
Therefore, I think the rule could be changed.

To begin with..... Would you shoot someone when you know there are anywhere between 3 to 15 more police in the area with bigger and better guns? Sometimes its best to pick and choose fights.

Docking and repairing would usually, inRP, take more then a matter of around (or less than) a minute.

I understand what you are saying but think about the logistics of having a rule along the lines of:

"Docking at a station or planet while you are in range of the ship you were fighting counts as PvP death. Trade vessels and fleeing ships are exempt from this rule."

It would cause a whole lot more work for admins trying to keep it with the influx of reports and people using the "I was fleeing.... I was going to come back!" excuse.

If you are able to get away from the fight your not be considered dead now anyway, that was changed quite some time ago. Just don't let the dock message be seen.

Personal opinion, I'm happy to keep it the way it is. Less work for me an admin trying to figure out the ins and outs of who did what and what the story is, and as a player - 2 hours makes more sense to have repairs and stuff done on your ship anyway.

Also, roleplay is combating the hostiles as well. So PvP is part of roleplay even if you don't like it.

Today I had a fight with a cargo ship...and that's what they did, dock, repair, undock, shoot, repeat. over...and over....aaaand over again....I can only think of what it would be like with a fighter *crys*

Perhaps military ships docking with allied bases could also be exempt from this rule, it would be reasonable for the military to have emergency repair facilities during war. And as for repairing under a minute, nothing a quick influx of nanobots won't fix.

snak3, there are other mechanisms in place to prevent never-ending battles. I would however like the PVP to be more inrp and have already expressed my personal opinion - I would sacrifice balance (ie. making "fair fights" etc) for RP.

If repairing your ship would take a realistic amount of time, your solution would work. But then your ship would have to be trapped in the station for at least 1 or 2 hours. Ever took your car to a garage? There is a reason why they give you a car as a replacement... because it takes forever.

Definitely NO.
PVP is often already annoying, you would add a major source of more annoyance.

If a Transport is being used as a combat ship specifically (engaging as a battletransport etc) then what he did is breaking the rules. Transports/liners used for fighting/pirating do not count as "trade vessels" but combat ones. So he broke rule 3.4. See here for more details.

How would a fight ever be winnable for one of the sides if the other could just dock and re-arm in plain sight. That's ridiculous. It would make PvP extremely boring and raids could never be successful.

Train in conn. Get better at PvP. That's a better solution.
