You can if you get someone to help you in the Out of Role Play system called Connecticut (Shortened to "conn"), or somewhere in game. It's easier and usually safer in conn, but you can't transfer commodities there. Other than that, there is no command to transfer equipment. It has to be done with a trusted player.
to get to conn, you type "/conn" (without quotes). To get back from conn and back into the role playing systems, type "/return" (again, without quotes).
Connecticut is a system where many people do PvP (player vs Player) battles to train in what ever they want to do, or just to have a chat
You need to either trade the item to another player and trust that they'll hold it while you switch to your other character...
Or jettison it into space and hope some npc doesn't come by and swipe it while you switch characters.
I wouldn't recommend that second one. Most people are trustworthy enough to hold the item while you log your other character - at least, as long as you make an ooc *out of character) agreement with them before you give it to them.
People often use the connecticut system for this purpose since it is not a roleplaying system, no one is supposed to shoot you without your permission, and you don't need to be in-character when you type in /system or /local chat there. Everywhere else, you would need to privately message the player you want to hold the item for you (typically prefaced by two slashes // which is disco-shorthand for 'everything after // is out-of-character')
In case you dont know how to trade between ships... when you target another ship in space, a button that looks like two ships with arrows pointed towards each other will appear at the bottom of the screen.
Ahh, it's all coming back to me now, (I think), haha. Soo if I remember correctly, (providing I don't have my own network issues or whatever), I could simply use a 2nd computer to log on and trade directly with myself?

(usually play on my desktop system)
I wouldn't... that's multiboxing, which is against the server rules. You may be able to get away with it if all you're doing is transferring equipment to yourself in conn... but I wouldn't risk it.
And uh... I know I'm dumping a lot of info on you at once here, but this is relevant:
You should be aware that Discovery has a system called 'tech nerfs' which is designed to prevent ID/Ship/Equipment combinations that don't make sense in-roleplay. For example, if you put Gallic Navy guns on a Liberty fighter, your powercore's regeneration would be reduced to 10%.
Here's the technerf chart(s) that say who can use what tech at what % core nerf.
Gotcha & thanks, yea I sorta ran into that already, lol.. atm I honestly don't remember what goes with which & just slapped a buncha weaps on my transport, (since all I'm doin is mining helium), which currently has my power or whatever docked 25%. Oops!
Sorry to whine, but now I'm mad...... had a friend over who wanted to check out the mod, (he hasn't played the game in nearly 7y as well), so we installed the game on my laptop so we could play together. (which took a few tries actually get it in & everything working right) Neither of us could remember how to transfer goods from one player to the other, so we simply used the jettison/tractor method, one by one for each item. There was a touch of lag during the process, but they'd allegedly all been tractored up. Upon checking my ships items, NONE of them were there?!?!?!! Just lost quite a bit of money worth of somewhat advanced ship components. Might be enough for me to rage-quit for awhile, as I'd just clawed my way into a Mammoth & without said items, I've got a bare ship and likely not enough $$$ to even put any weapons on it.
Sigh... how much are you out? If it's <20m I can cover it. PM me a ship name.
