Ever since update 5, I've not been able to get Disco working without it crashing on launch. I've tried reinstalling both vanilla and Disco, as well as setting the Disco installation to be exempt from anti-virus but still no luck. Anybody else had this problem? Or is there some kind of crash log I can pull up from somewhere to help find what's wrong?
That's the log Freelancer produces from the time it starts to the time it's exited. If you could throw that on pastebin or something like that and then link it here, I can take a look at it.
So I've accidentally discovered something really weird about this. I launched FL to get the FLSpew requested, by chance with a different account to what I had been using before, and everything worked fine. When switching back to the old account, the game crashed as soon as I selected a character on the server, then after I tried again, it crashed on launch as before (EDIT: I should mention that having tried to launch with this account now, the crashing on launch occurs, seemingly, regardless of what account is selected now). Really not sure what to make of that.
Anyway, I've included the FLSpew of crash on launch:
I did, but I've been doing full reinstalls for each update due to the amount of extra stuff I have installed over Disco in case it causes any problems.
EDIT: Went and got myself the update 4 file and used that to install update 5 over. Working fine now, thanks for the help.
Updates 1-5 didn't have the previous updates' content included -- until now, that is. We've set it up now such that Update 5 now has all the previous updates rolled in.
Additional details:
- OS is Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit, just activated it a few days ago. ::: Intel Core i5-3470, DirectX 11 ::: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 Ti ::: ~8GB RAM
- Antivirus is Avast!. Done my best to make sure the entire DiscoFL folder, let alone DSAce.dll, is excluded from BOTH the antivirus and Windows Firewall itself. Worked first few tries, but crashes on succeeding attempts.
- as Max suggested, I downloaded the Update 5 Zip manually, then unzipped on my DiscoFL folder. Worked first few tries, but crashes on succeeding attempts.
- Set both the shortcut and the .exe file to always run as administrator. Worked first few tries, but crashes on succeeding attempts.
- Searched around the forums a bit and found an old solution of tinkering the PrefOptions.ini and Hudshift.ini. Worked first few tries, but crashes on succeeding attempts.
- Friend suggested I reinstall DiscoFL, then play the game without updates by saying no to downloading updates. Worked perfectly at v4.87.0.
- Bloom effect and Direct 3D sound unrelated to problem: worked fine with afformentioned un-updated DiscoFL.
well shait just now i got hit by this too. i played all 4.87 updates since 4.86 on the same instalation and all of a sudden in a bright morning it started crashing on any of my chars, so i reinstaled freelancer, took the update 5 nice and smooth but when on launching from station..Crash to desktop again
