is it possible to turn it off?

if so i think it would add excitement to flying, not knowing whos out there

it would make people want to interact and not fly alone

escorts would be hired more for traders

pirates would be more scared and probably fly more in groups

solo traders would have sweaty palms not knowing whats on other side of trade lane/gate

Sounds like a good idea and it might reduce the server load as well :-)

Edit: A big NO now since you said you are speaking about the in game list, I thought you are speaking about the Players Online list on the forums.

It also might let you NEVER find another soul if you're on at the wrong time and in the wrong place.

Anything that makes it EASIER to find people and interact, imo, is a good thing.

Making it more difficult, while maybe adding a degree of excitement at being more "unknown," would not be as desirable. Especially for new players or folks who don't use Skype.

It's already hard enough to find people, and given the fact that most of the time there are less players than system count... ye.

It will just encourage everyone to log only in NY where meeting someone is certain for them. Also, it won't decrease server load, you still get the data regarding the location of other players anyway.

no i dont think it will make people just log into NY

it depends on what the player wants to do, does he want to goto NY, does he want to goto the outer systems to create/improve/define is char?
