As I was viewing the forums and took a gander at the Kusari Voting I was struck by a thought. How should Houses vote for their leaders in RL-Time? I mean we got Houses that CALL themselves Republics or claim to have Political Parties, but how often do we actually see them voting for the next 'Party in Charge'?
This is the age old question, should a republic vote in a new leadership or leave it to the faction leaders to formulate a government.
I guess the answer is somewhere in between.
The problem with democratic systems are that they require dedicated forumlancers who are willing to put in the time to do it for the long term, this can be a lot harder than relying on just faction leaders, it can also end with some pretty big breaks in lore, of course the same thing can happen with faction leaders and at least with a new group you get some fresh ideas that could help to liven the place up a bit.
When it comes to voting in new members, the best way is to group those that have at least a basic knowledge of the region and it's lore and have an interest in actually being involved and just go on a voting spree.
Or alternatively group those as above then open up the voting for these individuals by either the community as a whole(Not recommended) or anyone with a character in that area.
The voting happening in Kusari is a first run event, expect some problems as we trial the process, maybe we could help you with a similar process in Rheinland once we have seen it's results.
The problem with Rheinland MJ is that acouple of the Leads are apathetic to the whole idea of RPing the Bundestag portion of Rheinland. With the person who played Rheinhardt stepping down the Nationalist Party is 'leaderless' until a new person is choson to lead it. Leaving just my party (IPR) the only one with active leadership (The farmer's party is kinda defunct due to NOBODY playing it.).
All in all it gives me one giant headache and makes me frankly alittle sad at times. X_X
Indeed, I understand that predicament, when the change of government happened in Kusari, we were without an active voice for Kishiro which made things very difficult as the Samura side of the debate had to stay it's hand since there was no sparring partner.
The key is you have to get people interested in playing all sides, but you can not move forward without the support of the faction commands.
You have my sympathy there for sure.
I would be interested in political sparring with you however I am currently busy with Kusari and would need to read up a lot more on Rheinland to even attempt it.
Maybe you can placate the factions involved if instead of the apathetic HC you can just entice some members they trust.
Also they would no doubt need assurances that their control over their faction was not threatened.
Liberty does not feature much in the way of a multi-party Government presence in terms of player roleplay. The Government, pretty much since its initiation, has always had a strong gameplay focus, and the primary forum RP reflects both that and the oorp structure (a conference of equals - official lawful and Big Three faction leaders).
In a less convoluted sentence: multiple parties exist in-lore in Liberty, but they are not actively roleplayed, because it is essentially "window dressing" since the players in the Government would not necessarily change, as well as the associated general policies that have been agreed upon.
I think it adds some nice RP that does not per se have to really have much of an influence overall, but rather it adds another aspect of life to the roleplaying here making it more immersive. There's war, there's trade, there's crime, there's going out/spare time in the form of wateringholes and stuff like that. More prominent politics would be another thing to add to the list and that's pretty cool.
I myself RPed for some time with a small political party, the Libertonian Party for Freedom and Equality (LPFE) for some time with my ex-Hellfire admiral trying to make peaceful change and it gave for some nice RP gathering people to join the party, campaigning etc. It added a small, but fun element to the game for me anyway.
And of course I'm a bundschuh player to the bone so if you need to add some grim element to political RP in Rheinland, ranging from demonstrations to terrorist attacks, I, and the rest of the VWA, would gladly help out. Participating in the Bundestag itself would however be a no-go as the whole point of the Bundschuh is that they're an outlawed political party
