I'm a part of this community from years ago, just right after 4.85 version was depoyed, saw many fights, raids, blood baths, rp events and been a part of them with my chars around the whole sirius, I remember that every evening I had to try for atleast 10 minutes to join the server cause it was full (198/200 all the time).
I've been a part of countless fights with +25 ships involved, excellent roleplay and tactics, but this is all gone ... It all started with the 4.86 update.
In the last 2 months or so the server delivers (constantly) so called "lag" experience to all players, you can't even make a mission against couple of fighters without seeing lag spikes every ~30-45 seconds, you cannot fight bomber vs bomber anymore cause your SNAC's will not make damage (even if you see the animation, confirmed by friends and others being a part of the fight) <- you have to fire on the exact time when the server recovers from lag or your "supernova cannon" will be useless.
If someone hits you (cerberus for example) when the lagspike appears (which lasts 1-10 seconds every single time) and you're standing still (cause of the lag), you're dead and you'll not know what happend.
Yesterday I was a part of a raid, rheinland vs liberty, I was on rheinland side ... after we killed LN battleships / carriers / labc's all rheinland fleet was slaughtered by 6 bombers, I was in a fighter and I really couldn't HIT any enemy ship due to massive lag, not even get his shields off ...
This happens every single time, no matter if you're flying in space, alone ... no matter if you're fighting, mining, rp-ing, making missions ... the lag is all over the place.
Started to be unplayable and I'm pretty sure that the entire community is seeing this, if you're trading, mining, rp-ing it's ok ... but we cannot fight anymore, at all!

So, my question is this: Will this defective server behaviour be (ever) fixed (anytime soon) ?
If it's ddos, maybe you have to change the provider for the same amount of money are you spending on, OVH deployed free anti ddos service with every single dedicated server sold: http://www.ovh.co.uk/anti-ddos/
It's not all coming from serverside....check your own connection. That being said we are aware of the issue and the devs are doing everything they can to reduce the lag on the server.

If you're aware of the issue then why blame my own connection ? Everytime I fly I'm using voIP software (teamspeak) talking with my friends in real-time, they're from my country and even from Germany where the server is hosted. We all experience the lag in the same time, it's a little weird to consider that we all (4-5 players) using different PC's, different internet providers and different cities have problems with our own internet conections within the same time.
Taking a wild guess, I'll guess that a lot of the "new" lag could be caused by the more and more extensive anti-cheat plugins? In that case we'd have to thank the people who cheated for that.
EDIT:
A weird thing I noticed that if I play, alt-tab out without disconnecting, download stuff while alt-tabbed, stop those downloads so my connection is "free" again, alt tab back in, and continue playing, the game still lags for me even though Im not using my connection for anything else than freelancer then. Like the lag stays once it was there. Disconnecting and re-connecting form the server stops the lag.
You may wanna check if that also happens for you.

Without getting into specifics of the way DSAce works, it's not the anticheat, because the server just "directs" that.
Also, it's more efficient to prevent cheating than to catch it while it happens. That's why I took that low-impact route.
how about if the anti cheat were replaced by a cheat-logger. the system isnt having to decide that this is ok and this is not, it just logs the stats and lets a human sort it out? - a human who has all the evidence and knows all the tricks. ya know, the way we used to do it in '84?
Well, then we'll have no one able to play the game because everyone's getting gunned down from by people with infinite refire SNACs positioned over near the system wall.
