seriously, I bought a griffin because im xenos, and prefer light fighters... and it turns like a brick...
I was getting out menuvered by a freakin super heavy fighter in this thing! It was a full time effort to just concentrate on not getting hit.
sure it has like 1K more hull than other light fighters, but what the hell does that matter?
It doesnt matter, 1K of extra hull can be wiped by a single stray shot.
Considering how slow it turns, I think it should have 2x10s and 2x9s or maybe 4x9s
Viper seems to menuver just as well, yet dishes out much more significant firepower.
Not to mention that the heavy fighters that it can barely outmenuver can use one hit killing TORPS
I doubt this is the only light fighter like this... but it seemed very sluggish from the start
while there at it could we get the following ships sold at Alamo base
Griffin
Eagle
Civillian bomber
And at Ouray
Blazer
Hawk
Falcon
As for equipment... having high grade debilitators would be nice... I mean we appearently raid detroit for there guns... so why not?
We have little way of getting gear... because EVERYONE hates us. and its damn near impossible to get the needed ship because of it.
Xenos are like the only faction who have no ships for sale on there bases. Maybe a few others, but no one cares about them anyways:P
i think the greater problem of the griffin is that its response to turning is poor ( along with its huge size ). ... some ships have that problem, mostly light fighters... - that means they either do ( or appear to ) roll first before they turn. ( BHG sea serpent is a good example for that )
an example for a quick response is the hammerhead, which turns AND rolls at the same time, making it appear to be more agile than the griffin, which - by numbers should turn faster.
the only opponent i ever beat in a griffin was a barghest ... and thats pretty poor. ... i was even outturned by a manta VHF when i was flying a griffin. other than that problem, the griffin is quite fine.
Well Jinx one thing is what model/camera does.. another is how others see it.
There is nothing in the .ini section for agility that makes anything different for those ships. They look exactly as the ones next to them... so the roll then turn is mostly visual thing.
That said the numbers do say that Griffin and Sea Serpent do turn really slowly for a LF.. and both have really slow staffing as well.
Igiss says: Martin, you give them a finger, they bite off your arm.
yea - i suspected that much about the rolling / turning. - but nevertheless.... "looks" and "feeling" do play a huge part about agility. - a ship that "feels" agile is flown differently to a ship that "feels" slow - even if the numbers are identical.
for example.... to me - the BHG bomber "feels" smaller and more agile than the taidan bomber ( i fly both ) ... so even if its really only a visual thing - feeling the agility of a ship is important. - at least to me it is... ( i never actually checked any stats myself )
another example is the arrow. - i had it in the last version - and it felt small and extremely agile.... i was surprised that i still got hit quite a lot, - but only when it turned out that it was actually bigger than some VHFs ( something i would never have guessed ) things became clear about it.
still, the ship "feels" quick and small, no matter how big it is compared to other ships. ( same thing with the kadesh HF, which looks fairly compact and small - but when you park right next to a wrath, you see that its just one thing..... twice as big ) - still, it feels somewhat more HF than VHF..
about the camera thing.... is there a way to "fix" that? or is it some sort of hardcode that the camera is sometimes "slow"?
I never found the Griffin to be a brick of a light fighter...It was just as agile as any other LF I have ever flown.
Or am I used to the bomber so much a brick like LF feels agile?
It has better fire power than most LF's dosn't it? Wouldn't that make up for the loss over agility?
