Remembering Tic's work, i've went to see if capital ships really do have small masses... So one would think, I fix the mass thing and everything works!
So I take the mass values of the NPC osiris, place it to the PC osiris and Viola I have an BS capable of holding it's own against all kinds of touches... one problem thou... It Handless like a brick. (No wonder NPC's don't turn their caps much, even if the planet is in the way)
So out comes teh text editor and up come some changes... so as i've increased the mass by 100times, let's increase forces and torques stearing the ship by the same amount...
I haz itz!:yahoo:
Now the ship turns like the old one... slow but abruptly... but it still accelerates like a brick... zero to 350? well it gets to about 325... You fly like you are constantly on engine kill.. Yaaay!
I haz it not... :(When I crash the Yokahama Shipyard I still get thrown around...
Next test asteroids...
:( I haz it not yet... Join me again next time when I try to fix this menancing problem...

Bare in mind though Tic found a solution, but it dosn't effect Multi-player. I'm not sure why...
If you can come up with a multi-player solution, I'm sure all the capital ship pilots would kiss you:P
Keep it up
"Three o'clock is always too late or too early for anything you want to do."
Yeah, I'll work on it... this will be my Modders log... if anyone has an Idea to fix this problem... strap it right in...
So Take two... I've copied the values from the NPC osiris, to the PC.. much like in the first take. Now the ship flies like a brick, but whenever I crash an asteroid, it stays pointed in the same direction... as in... DOES NOT BOUNCE UNCONTROLABLY,... rather controlably, you just stear around the obstacle and continue on... I'll now try to redeam the slow stearing issue...
Edit1:Without a doubt a solution exists... becouse just by copying the NPC stats the ship starts rotating out of it's mind...
Now I can track this down to rotation inertia... It is 5000 times more resistant to rotation than PC version. And yes by the looks of it, it rotates about a 5000 times less when hit by objects...

thats times 10000 each, of the old numbers, and it works. Physics behind this is really simple,... And so is changing every ship, just add 0000 somewhere in there, and everything is set for masscorrections...
The original sin comes from copying all stats to new large ships... So what hey are are esentialy huge freighters... now with proper inertia they are indeed large ships.
To fix the ship, multiply each of the numbers by 10000.
//patent ends...
Multiplayer tests reveal that it works in multiplayer aswell. from LF to VHF to another BS nothing can ramm you in to out of control turning...
*walks in to the nearst BMM office to patent the new gyro stabilization*

I do believe Rashnok has already found a tweak that ensures capital ships do not spin when rammed or encountering asteroids. Requires the changing of 1 line of coding oddly enough.
Still good to see others working at it too.
Rotational Inertia increases by radius^2. If you make a ship that's 10 times as long, it needs to have a 100 times larger inertia to be as resistant to rotational changes as the original ship. As this wasn't done the physical model that computes physics of freelancer produced strange results... The likes of wich every large ship Captain knows all to well.

This method is not an option. Results in wild camera shaking which makes flying through tradelanes and docking an extremely painful experience.
I get reports about "fixed spinning" every several months or so, and those who post those reports somehow don't realize that I tried solutions that simple, and even many other, more complex solutions from other mods, without much notable success.
I'll try this one of course, when I'll have time to test, but I'm sceptical about such things.

I don't get this problem, whatsoever... flies throu lanes beautifuly... docks well, on stations.
Perhaps with bigger ships the problem might ocure. *Buys the Rheinland BS and does a trade run to cambridge without a hitch*
Granted the ship is almost to big for tradelanes but "no" problems there. Asteroid fields are still unmanagable. Due to share size.
I'll try something smaller... the adv. Train... works aswell...
If anyone would like to try it out themselves... PM and i'll tell you where to change what. Don't run it on the Server or you'll be banned for cheating. (even my stock server detects this as a cheating attempt)
