*sighs heavily* What a day! Bought my second boat today - named her the Dawn Treader, after my late wife. Dawn was beautiful. I miss her...but, she, and our favorite activity on Houston, sunrise watching, will live on in this ship.
*clears throat, drinks some coffee*
After the accident, I lost everything. Dawn's family refused to help me with the bills. The ynever liked me anyway. They jsut wanted her body buried in the family cemetary. I don't even get to be buried there. They pretty much disowned me after they found out she had died. Just waiting for a chance I guess.
Never could come to an agreement with her father - an LSF veteran who had reitred probably a year after we met. When I asked him if I could marry her, he very calmly said "No daughter of mine is gonna marry a F***in' Junker"
So we eloped, haha. But never had much support from him, though. My family, mom anyway, was happy. If Papa were alive...*sighs*
So, this is it. I'm turning a new leaf. Starting a new chapter. I've got Dawn again, and we're going to rustle us up some adventure. I've been around Texas my whole life, all 28 years of it. It's time for a change.
So I'm lounging around here on Baumont, and I hear through some of the other Junkers talking that there is a Junkers Congress base operating in Puerto Rico. I've only been to Puerto Rico once, and I don't but I think I'll check it out. I've read their creds and it looks like a place I'd like to be.
I've already contacted some of the Congress ships, and barring any holdbacks, I'd like to operate with them.
I just finished outfitting Dawn with some heavy mining arrays. She is a fine ship. Had to make a few modifications to the engine core housing, since the previous owner decided to cool the engines by venting the heat directly into space. That "works" but doesn't work for me. So, I hope Dawn appreciates her new engines and housing, heh.
I can't wait till she's spaceworthy. As soon as she is, I'm on my way to Puerto Rico...and a new life.
and I don't mean just my wife..*sighs heavily and puts head in face for a few moments*
I made it to La Fortaleza. we docked, Dawn and I, and while I chatted up the local Congressmen there, she looked pristine as ever. for a salvager, heh.
Got word some folks were headed to Omicron Alpha hauling some premium scrap that way, so I asked about it and confirmed, and sure enough; headed out an hour later, after stocking Dawn to the brim with premie scrap, ready for trade.
The trip was amazing. I loved it, my new-found friends were happily chatting away over the comms, and I kept wanting to pinch myself, thinking it was a dream. Finally, a bit of a break.
We got through most of the systems okay, had some tiny little snub fighters come at us but the escort we had took care of them quickly enough. Then there was word of a Rheinland craft, a possible spy for the military nearby. our escort checked it out as we laid low for a bit and found out it was just a trader, hauling some cargo. Phew.
and then the completely unthinkable happened. We got into Alpha, and then there was Corsairs everywhere.
Little bit of back-story. Few years back I had a run in with some 'sairs on Houston. They were undercover and didn't wanna be found out, and i had kinda stumbled into the whole situation so they made me a deal, keep quiet about what I saw or end up real space junk. I was a bit scared so I went with it for a little while 'til I saw what they were doing. Sex and slave tried. Alright, fine. Pay me, I'll keep my mouth shut. Anyway, I decided to come collecting one day and guess what? they tried to threaten me even more. They didn't pay me, weren't going to even. I needed the money so I got a little angry. I shot 'em. wasn't thinking straight. just a couple o guys, right? took my creds and ran.
Fast forward. Guess who comes knocking on my hull. One of em lived, and has been looking for me ever since. He explains how he is the guy who killed Dawn, and how she screamed over and over as he raped her. then he drugged her, dumped her body in her aircar, and put a brick on the gas until she and the car smashed into the Houston Parliament. Mad eit look like she was a Cardi addict who overdosed and committed suicide. Mother. F****er.
This time though, he had a lot of backup. They boarded, took me, brought me back to his ship. My friends, obviously not involved, were allowed to keep flying.
but me, no..I had to watch as they killed her again. right in front of my eyes. my hopes, my dreams, my plans..
then i started begging. enough, please.. they just laughed. took all my creds, anything worth anything from me.
Offered me a new "deal". Work for them as a spy in Texas, and I'd be left alone. I didn't know what else to do. Had nothing left. Had to say yes. Either yes, or be spaced. Shoulda known they'd space me anyway..
So now, here I am, in my own lifepod, waiting for the air to run out. I don't know why I didn't see this coming. If I ever see that bastard again, I'm going to take a hammer and some nails..
and what a show, too! I guess they'd heard the whole thing!
Our escort comes flying in, opens up on this sairs escorts, and they got nothing on him (I knew I should have put turrets on Dawn, damnit!) and wastes his buddies. Then he turns on the sair himself and the sair tries to fight back but this guy gets a face full of plasma. TWO SHOTS. bam bam! first one melted his viewport glass and the second melted him. Then they grabbed me out of space, and flew me back to Puerto Rico where they gave me enough creds to get me a new ship.
Damn, I don't know what I did for these guys, but they obviously protect their own. Sign me up. hahaha.
So now, I'm having a "funeral" for the Dawn Treader. I hate how the past comes back to haunt you. *falls down on his knees and begins weeping*
God, if you're out there..please keep her safe. Keep her with you. and if she is with you, that means I gotta do whatever I can to get in your good graces so I can see her again.
*takes the stencil he's holding and spraypaint can, and continues to paint the name onto the hull of the ship*
*tears fall from his face as he pulls the stencil back, and the words BREATHING LIGHT can be seen on the hull*
