how do you set multiple waypoints? like 1 there then move over there without like setting a best path except in those systems with no trade lanes i want to explore a system but i think waypoints would be easy.

On the nav-map screen, you can select a starting waypoint or add a waypoint (they have different icons that appear when you right-click on the map). I think if you use the "Goto" (F2) option to navigate though the ship will come to a halt as soon as you reach whatever waypoint you have selected, whether it's the first or last. I'm not 100% on this, just roughly guessing by memory. Hope it's some help.
On the navmap, if you click on an empty bit of space it comes up with four icons around the cursor... the one to the right (I think.... looks like a blobby diamond) sets a waypoint there. You can then repeat for as many waypoint as you like.
HOWEVER.... if you click on something useful (base, planet, jumphole, etc), you can only set "best path" (the icon to the left?), unfortunately. And if you do this, any waypoints you set as above will be squashed.
BL**Y Microsoft!!
BUT.... you can also delete waypoints. Click on the waypoint and click the bottom icon (looks like a '*'). You have to delete them in the same order to set them, ie. only the waypoint which actually has a number can be deleted at a time.
So how is this is useful? Lets say you set "best path" to something interesting... but it takes you thru an annoying tradelane when you want to fly overland direct to it. You can delete all the waypoints leading thru the tradelanes, leaving just the one on your target. Then hit F2....
That's how I normally do it.
Remeber you have to delete waypoints starting at your ship position and working toward the target, it won't let you delete intervening ones.
