i simply cannot really enjoy systems - they look all pretty much the same, and i know that there s a lot of work involved in making them - from what i hear.
but the presentation is just so often .... rather dull. - core systems are only so nice, cause they are full of NPC life. ... custom systems are mostly dead, no matter what terrifying minefield mazes they include - they re still mostly dead.
there are a few that are good - one of the nice custom systems is delta, cause there is a fair amount of "life" in it due to the different factions and the unique use of heavy gear. - but when i see systems like the typical guard system ... its mostly boring.
anyway - the system map looks nice. - crawlling with stuff - hope the system itself "tells a good story" - something that adds to the lore - and not only to the system count of "visited systems".
This system only really has Red Hessian Guard NPCs inside of it, so I do see your point. As far as i'm aware though it's meant for training purposes mostly.
yea - wasn t meant to be particularly negative about this system, but about systems in general. - i know its mostly for the faction only and as such does not really need to win the award for the most realistic system in terms of NPC activity at their daily work.
but - some constructive question - have you built the system purely two-dimensional ... or moved the objects a bit on the Y-axis, too? - i like the tokelau ( or whatever the name was ) nebula in delta, which is located quite high above the systems ecliptic. gives the system more "volume" than the usual "flat" system.
ya - as a referrence ... also look at omicron-74 ( former AW guard ) ... the zoner guard shipyard ( Lividia, i think ) is located high above the ecliptic behind the planet.. it makes the system very interesting to look "upwards" as if the shipyard thrones over the entry point. ( although that might be purely subjective of course ) - but i think it was a grand view ( back in 4.84 when freeport XV still looked awesome ) - when you came in... and saw the freeport with its dozen biodomes as a silhouette before the sun - and in your upper left corner, - looming in the dust of the planetary rings, you saw the shipyards that produce the juggernauts - just faintly outlined before the black background.
when i first came into 74, it was a great feeling - just like a GUARD system should feel like ( well, then i learned its not a zoner guard system but AW and the feeling went away haha )
anyway a lot about a system comes with the first view you get when you enter ( the only view that hte system modder can really determine, as the rest is about the player and how he moves around )
its similar to omega-58. when you zone in.... you see the nomad gate before the sun.... creating some sort of a tunnel effect with yourself, the gate and through the hole in the gate, you see the sun - something that "sucks" you in and makes you fly up to the gate... as the only logical path. - once the setting of those "objects" shifts around, the effect is gone and there is no real urge to fly deeper into the system THAT much anymore. - so the first view is very important i think.. maybe you can post what you see when you zone into your system.
ahh - to be honest, - its not an impressive view ( compare that to omega-58 when you zone in ) ... i d screenshot o-74 again, but since the freeport is nerft down to a standard default station, the zone in view is rather disappointing there, too.
well, it doesn t scream guard system / holy sanctum of a powerful faction. the first one could look nicer when the planet was moved to some side a bit - so that the sun creates a corona effect ( sunrise effect ) behind its surface and the atmospheric blur. - the second one ... well, its just orange.
The idea is that you jump in from O-11 only to find yourself lost in the Walker Nebula. The only visible objects after jumping in are the weapon platforms and the dual suns. Also, the planet has been put there specifically, as per the request of Blodo and Cawd0r.
