Carlos Antonio Rivera GarcÃa: The Biography of an Honorable Corsair
Carlos Antonio Rivera GarcÃa was born in 797 A.S. to a respected Corsair family. His parents were both fighters in the Corsair-Outcast War and they were brillant strategists as well. Under their leadership, the Corsairs killed hundreds of Outcast pilots, which the Outcasts didn't like. While on a routine patrol, my parents and some others were confronted by a huge group of Outcasts. Of course, they fought back, but they could not withstand the massive fighter fleet and ultimately, they were killed.
In 810 A.S., a year after his parents' deaths, Carlos, who had been forced to fend for himself after the death of his family, bought a Decurion Light Fighter and began to pirate traders in Bretonia. During this time, his life changed forever. One trader came and seemed to notice that Carlos was a bit desperate for his money. He refused to pay, but he had something in mind for the young Corsair. Carefully, he destroyed the young Corsair's light fighter and tractored in his escape pod. After landing on Planet Cambridge, the Bretonian, with a gun in his hand, cautiously opened the pod. The Corsair jumped out and tried to flee, but the Bretonian locked the doors in the cargo hold.
Carlos turned to the Bretonian and said, "Why are you doing this?"
"Because, you seem...different from all the other Corsairs I've met. I can see the pain, the anger in your eyes. Tell me, what happened during your past that has left you so scarred?"
"And you think I'm going to tell you that!?"
"Well, I want to help you. Even if you are a pirate, that doesn't mean I can impart a few words of wisdom on to you."
"How could you possibly help me?" asked Carlos. He was still on his guard, but he was becoming slightly interested in what this man had to say.
"I don't want you to turn into a ruthless creature like the other pirates I've seen. You're young and it's not too late to save you."
"Are you suggesting that I leave the Corsairs!?!?!?" yelled an enraged Carlos.
"Well, if that's a possibility, I would recommend it, but if you choose not to, I will respect your decision."
Carlos thought for a few long minutes. This man seemed wise and it looked like he could help him get over his pain that had haunted him for so long.
Finally, he said, "...All right."
"Come with me then. We'll head to my apartment. On the way, why don't you tell me a bit about yourself?"
Carlos explained his life story to the man. Afterwards, he said, "Well kid, I can see how this has affected you. Why don't you stay with me a couple weeks and I'll teach you some things that I think you'll need in the future."
Carlos agreed and over the next few weeks, he stayed with the Bretonian, who had come to care for him as if he were his son. During his stay, the Bretonian said to him, "Look, I know you want revenge, but you can't get a whole fleet of Corsairs on these, what, 4 guys? You gotta have some respect for your enemies. Revenge feels better only if you did it with honor and starting a manslaughter of Outcasts is not honor. You gotta beat them fair, or you won't really have accomplished anything and you'll be left with this hollow victory. Fight with honor, and you'll come out victorious. Do you understand?"
"Yes sir, I do. Thank you for everything."
"Now, when you're ready to go, I'll give you some money and a spare ship, so you can get home."
The next day, Carlos left Bretonia, promising to keep in touch with the man who became a father-figure to him. Afterwards, he continued to work hard, so he could get himself a Titan. After undergoing the final rite of passage by flying into the Graveyard of Innocents and coming back out alive with an Artifact, he decided the time was ripe for revenge. He gathered up a few of his friends and headed out to Omicron Eta. Along the way, his friends questioned him about why he had only brought them instead of requesting a fleet for the attack. Carlos told them what the man had told him 5 years ago and soon enough, they understood. As they came close to Palermo Base, they spotted the assassins leaving the station. Once they had gotten a good distance away, the Corsairs made their move and engaged the Outcasts. After a long and hard battle, the Corsairs came out victorious. After a night of celebrating in the Crete Bar, Carlos realized that honor really was the key to success.
The next year Carlos joined the Brotherhood and continued to protect Crete and the Corsairs. However, he began to see that the Corsairs began to go against eveything he was taught to believe. They began to perform harsher and harsher attacks against the Bounty Hunters, greatly outnumbering them and even taking advantage of the fact that they were weak after a training session. As much as he hated the Bounty Hunters, he still thought they should get a fair fight. Soon, he realized he couldn't stay with the Corsairs, so he handed in his letter of resignation to the Brotherhood Elders.
EDIT: As Carlos was about to give his equipment back to the Arca, he saw 2 Hessians attacking Tripoli Shipyard, so he took off to defend his home planet. After destroying them both, he realized that he had made a grave mistake in leaving the Brotherhood. Luckily, Elder Sephardi welcomed him back with open arms. Even though Carlos has returned to the Corsairs, he still reminds them to fight with honor.
