Now, then, I have quite a complex conundrum to bring to the table today.
As a smuggler, what exactly should our IFFs look like? I know what a specific smuggler, such as an Outcast smuggler with an Outcast ID bringing Cardimine to Pauda, or a Junker bringing Counterfeit Software to Trafalgar, should look like, but what about independent smugglers?
Now, what I suppose is that a smuggler is supposed to lay low. By this, I mean their IFF shouldn't draw attention (Like an Outcast or Hessian IFF would), but rather take attention away from the smuggler in their zone of operations. As an example of this, a smuggler working for the Corsairs in Kusari should use a Hogosha or Samura IFF, or a smuggler working for the Outcasts in Bretonia should use a BowEx IFF.
Now, then, I have encountered significant resistance to using the setups I have mentioned above, thus prompting me to ask, what should a smuggler IFF look like?

in my opinion having no iff is best but if not then junker ( since getting freelancer iff is harder then no iff in my opinion)

Freelancer IFF is a lot of work. We all know that. It's not very viable...
The problem with the Junker IFF is that the Junkers are known far and wide as people who just might be doing illegal things. When I was in the BPA, if I saw a Junker, I thrusted right over to scan him. They're like the known mafia, watched by all the Police.
Or at least that's how I viewed them...
Also, Kusari + Junker IFF = No one will ever buy your stuff in RP. Be happy you can even dock and aren't already dead by the Hogosha...
' Wrote:Psh... I'd go for no IFF. People don't look very close when you don't have one. It's just uber-hard to manage that except on a new character.
Well, if you are missing an IFF, you are missing a rather substantial piece of Roleplay of your character. With whom do your allegiances lie, then? There has to be someone with whom you work. It also reduces your amount of cover stories by, well, a lot...

Eh, not necessarily true. In my opinion, a smuggler would work for whoever pays out the credits, and that would change all the time. In that case, no IFF actually fits the RP better since he wouldn't stick to one IFF as he doesn't stick to one faction's jobs.
Now if in RP your smuggler works for one faction a lot. Done deal. RP > Usability. Use that IFF.
What about Ageira? it's respected in Liberty (i usually don't even scan them), and in every place of sirius they're known. You can even use threats about trade lane / JG disable to any copper trying to ban you from an area, considering it an attack to the own ageira and such. Bringing some lane parts(a few) with you as RP item should do the trick.

Well, what about the RP of the character itself? If the Outcasts are known to have a 'good' relationship with the Bretonians, is it hard to believe that a smuggler in the employ of them might be using one of the BowEx transponders in order to reduce the suspicion of the Bretonian Public, and it would be slightly tolerated by the Police because they are almost close?
Same thing about Corsairs and Kusari. If the Corsairs have several under-the-table deals with the Kusari, is it hard to believe that the Kusari would hand the Corsairs a Samura transponder in order to reduce their suspicion abroad while they trade Artifacts and Kusari goods?
Isn't the tag an essential part of RP instead of just a sticker you slap on yourself to avoid being sanctioned? I don't think we're thinking about it like that....
I'm more of trying to confirm this thought than look for a generic tag.
EDIT:
Especially because of the resistance to what I have been doing lately...

DSE ships for them, and they can't threaten anything because they don't own the trade lanes anymore. They were nationalized by both Rheinland and Kusari, I do believe, and Bretonia might even be smart enough to do the same...
