Since I came back to Freelancer, I have been experiencing massive lag to a degree that it renders the game unplayable. I have a pretty bad connection, because it's often occupied by my flatmates, but even if they use the bandwidth, other games have a steady ping of 100-300.
The problem is that every 5-10 minutes, I get a wave of red lag lasting about 10-20 seconds. I assume it's due to my flatmates doing something with their connection, but the problem is, while both the browser and other games work properly after such a spike, Freelancer does not. It keeps giving me a steady red lag which disappears only after I get kicked from the server or relog.
Also, even if my bandwidth is clear (ping 40-80), I get massive lag whenever there are 5+ people around me on the server.
I tend to think this is a software error, rather than a connection error. Can anyone help?
I have been having the same problems since January. I stopped playing for a while and I checked in back today to find my ping reduced from 400 to 190. My previous ping was around 160. The lag seems to be there though, once in a while (not as constant as it was, a month back).
Give it some time. I guess it keeps changing somehow with time ._. (as weird as it sounds)
I've had this problem for three years by now, in a large part, it is the reason why I stopped playing. It also influences other Freelancer mods. Something must have happened to your computer setup, can't you remember what it was?

My computer setup is perfectly fine as far as know. Like, the lag just happened all of a sudden. I used to play everyday, and one day when I login, the ping is around 300-350 in the server selection screen and in game, goes upto 500. And again, after a few weeks, it is back to 190. Not sure if that is my internet though.
But well, the other games have been running fine with no rise in ping, even after Disco was rip.
Anne, other games work perfectly fine, my flatmates also are able to use the internet perfectly, beside the time when all three of us are using the bandwidth at the same time. My ping is also normal when I log, but after a few minutes, I get red lag and then it doesn't go away until I relog. Also, even if all of us are using the bandwidth, I get around 150-300 ping in any other game, but it's temporary, opposed to Disco. Perhaps I should perform an experiment with another computer, though I don't think either of my flatmates would let me install Disco on her computer.
I'm getting the same problem in other Freelancer mods as well, in addition, no one else with whom I'm having an interaction seems to experience this issue. Unless the server host is specifically targeting me, I don't think it's a server problem.
