Been here a little while and haven't found any posts about the problems with sound that used to plague FL.
What I mean is: Intermittent sound. Play for a while and sound is ok then lose sound of shots, or of video clips when talking in bars etc. Very random. This has been happening on my PC since I installed the game, and has stayed with me with vanilla FL, Disco and other mods.
Have I just missed the posts? Were the problems solved? Do people still get them? Is my PC THAT old? (I run Windows 2000 on an Athlon 1100. The sound is from a NVIDEA nForce)
It is irritating to have this occur when playing, so I was hoping some of you may know something to help.
Well im somewhat stumped what I say you do is go to nvidia and look for a software update on your sound card.
If that doesnt fix it then I have no idea.
I have found no solution. I use Windows Media Player a lot, mind you I have no codec packs as mentioned above. So it being intermittent could be either a driver problem for your sound card, or a faulty installation of the game.
I wish I could help you more.:(

I guess I could go through and re-install all the media codecs I have. I don't use Microsoft Media Player at all, so I suppose I may have missed some updates to its codecs. If they are the ones accessed by the FL code then that could be a cause of the problem, FL being a MS game and all.
I chose a long time ago to avoid using any MS add-ons to the basic operating system, such as browsers, media player etc. (Have you actually read the licensing agreements that everybody just clicks on when installing? As I understand it, if you are running anything from XP on, you have already given them permission to control what you can run on your computer. One day they will exercise this control and make you pay a yearly fee to run your own computer. This is already happening to an extent. DRM, anyone?)
Oops, paranoia attack there.
I have installed FL on another computer running Win2000 and it runs perfectly, making me think it is probably something to do with my Mobo/Soundcard/Drivers setup.
Ah well, back to the Search/Download/Install/Scratch head/Search again routine..

They have to get through my hardware and software firewalls first not to mention privacy laws. I think that applies to maybe users from the United States?
If completly remove your game, deativate the mod, and remove all other Freelancer components, bar the Account manager if you have it, you may not. Re-install a fresh copy without the mod, and try it.
If all else fails, put a Direct X Diagnostic on your next post so I can have a look at your hardware.
The problem with this is that hundreds on different things causing this problem. if your machine is more than two or three years old, you may want to re-install Windows by doing a repair, just to freshen things up a bit, or back all your data up, and do a FORMAT.
If you do that, make sure you KNOW what your hardware is, and have the drivers on a disk or pen drive first. Most important of all would be the Ethernet card/adapter.;)
The last option is last resort. But the best way to go about speeding up your machine, and the quickest and cheapest way to solve a problem without an expensive techies intervention. Because usually, thats all they end up doing anyway. Trust me, I know.:P
