This is just me thinking but... engagment rules.... what if less?

I was just thinking back to when I flew my pirate ships intending to raid and all that.
The rule about having sufficient role-play before engaging is... well... we all know you can bi-pass this kinda with two lines and then engage the target....
In a rule-of-thumb sort of way.

But what if we take that rule out and just say you need "engaging _____" and that would be enough.. Would that actually stop people from role playing?

Are we being forced to role play or do we actually WANT to roll play. I mean like that RP that you do just to fight. I would much rather just the guy get to the point and not dish out some random RP out of his butt just to attack me. You know?

There can be exceptions such as transports and stuff BUT...

The main question is are we getting forced to RP or do we do it becasue we like it?
I'd much rather RP with people who want to RP back than RP with someone that does it just for the sake of FINALLY being able to shoot.

There are already examples of IDs that dont need that much RP. Bounty hunters, Nomads, etc.
The thing is... do we want that? Or do we hate it?
Is there rule there to force us or is it there just to show we want to RP? If it is the second then why would we need it?

Just "Engage - ______" would look too odd. Since we are trying to Roll Play to make the FL looks more real ingame. Actually it might work for Terrorist factions, since their RP - guns. Butt ALL? Nah.

Let's model simple situation, LN boy meeting a pirate. In real, Navy or Bandit wouldn't go with simple "Kill.Kill.Kill". LN will try to arrest him and Pirate will try to run/bribe - there you have RP, and anyways it will end up with pews-pews, because Pirate would refuse the arrest and Navy will RP an obedient officer.

AND

Even if rule for RP before engaging would be crossed. Bluhungry would just keep disrupting RPs, people those always willing to RP and love RP proceeses would step away.

I don't realy think you see an Air Force shouting on Comm "ENGAGING" before he shoots at someone... So it isn't about realism, no way.

I would actually like to see more of the ID rules like Nomad ID one. As example obvious factions, like Rheinland vs Liberty should have

-Is allowed to engage Military Enforce instantly

or something. This could be implemented to official factions maybe, but more like military forces. A balanced way, this could be implemented.

well I think you can't really baypass rule by simply saying "Engaging", or 1-2 lines it's a Rp server and every single ID plays it's own role and you need a good IRP reason to shoot someone not just saying "Engaging" , Here are a few examples

and on a RP server you have to Rp, If you don't wanna Rp just wanna pew pew ( which I don't really like) then you can go to other servers and do only engaging stuff without saying anything but on a Rp server you have to Rp that's why it is called Rp server, Any other questions please tell

Well Devil, its not like pew pewing isnt a part of RP itself. If it makes sense that certain organisations engage at will, then a one line engaging should be enoigh, best example are NPCs. When we talk about RP we mostly consider ouraelfs as NPCs, so if there are reasonable factions that are at war each other in diplomacy, then you damn well should be allowed to go just "Oh well well! We have another military here engage at will!" 1 line RP

So then why not give 2 lines and be safe from breaking the rules?
- Enemy spotted sir, snub class vessel!
- Weapons are hot , going in and going strong

Done well within the rules and you give some RP

Also I don't get the OP suggestion, you do realize that people get sanctioned fairly often for not giving enough/decent amount of RP before they engage right? So you want it to be even less then it already is? I think everyone can drop 2 lines at least before they engage, i mean you can at least do that if you don't want to RP more.

Also I heard of a system where you can engage without giving RP.

Meaningless. the only reason the rule is in place is because early-on people would just blast away and the line "PvP?" sent system-wide (for lack of a localchat) was about as far as courtesy went.

Personally, when it comes to clear situations, such as two warring factions with obvious intentions in every encounter, I find mandatory foreplay redundant. It's even annoying, since just about 99% of the time, it boils down to to artificially polite taunts and disingenuous insults.

This is an RP server. If you don't want to RP before engaging a target, go play on another server. It is THAT simple.
