I alway thought a tanker would be made in round shapes, because if you have bulk cargo (like a fluid) a sphere would be the perfect form, because you would need the least material for the hull, but the discovery tanker is just a long box, so I made another model (very simple), for very cost effective tanker

what do you think? (I need advise (in each case on texturing))

the model itself still lacks a great deal of details. - just cause its a simple shape ( or ... especially when its a simple shape ) it requires details. - like pipes running around/along its hull, vents or other stuff - little stuff... stuff that gives the whole ship more "life".

other than that... texturing shouldn t be much of a problem there. some details can most certainly be added with a good skin, too.

however, this model is far from ready-to-be-textured i think. your ideas of a "tanker" are right though... but its more the name of the heavy tanker that is wrong, not the shape as such. - its just meant to be a transport for large parts that do not fit into multiple containers but have to be transported in one piece. - so its purpose is more that of a huge single hull transport than of a liquid / pressurized gas transport... so it can keep its blocky shape.

rumor has it that IMG might get a large gas transport - btw.

Honest opinion?

this looks like the estes model rockets I had as a kid...

front end is way too pointy, and there isnt enough model detail on the main body/tank.

A good start, the design itself has a good overall shape to it. However as Jinx and Tenacity said, needs quite a bit more detail.
Again, a good start:)

With the edge shape of current tanker it is possible to haul different cargos. A cube is the most efficient shape in matter of useable space, while tanks are better for gases and liquids indeed, because of the pressure. I consider the tanker can load alot of tanks though.

Look out.... its the DUPLO TANKER!!!
(sorry gekerd, couldn't resist:D

Seriously your idea is a good one. Maybe lose the pointy front, round it off...... the side bits could be rounded into engines & gun mounts too. Keep at it, let us know how it goes.

Good idea, but not only that it needs polishing, this one needs some hammer banging still.

Anyway, here is sectional opinions.

Command tower is ok, maybe few more details and nice texture, other than that its fine.

Engines.... round those few times... 4 blocks arent working for it. That even more of matter if whole ship is roundish.

Body tank... well... maybe using cylinder with rounded edges would work better.

Additional idea. Make is this way: Tower and engines would actually form ship that would look like big... clamp of sorts... and then, tank is added inside clamp. Like ship is designed to crarry big tanks/crates but only one.

Your opinion that the tanker needs more of a round shape is true..though the model needs more details, to me it just looks like a cylinder with three boxes attached to it.
