Alright so we know the cloaking devices let us sneak up and surprise someone, but it takes a while for the uncloak process to finish and/or for the shields to regenerate. What if we just have a piece of equipment that jams enemy scanners in range/hides us from the scanners at the cost of a commodity (MOX/H-fuel for example) at a reasonable rate, we would still be in plain sight, but scanners won't be able to pick us up. Would be a great idea for sneak attacks from above or below a player.

Nomads eh? Shotgun.... POW

I like this, it will all then fall onto the visual contact, which might actually require players to keep their eyes open more on whats going on around them and not just staring at the scanner.

I quite like this as well. Passive sensor jamming, like on the Normandy from Mass Effect.

Actually I thought about it some time ago and I think the best thing would be mixing up with idea regarding cloaks. Such a device would make player appear, if he is closer than 5-K to the player.

Alternatively, there could be a weapon in the CM slot, taking 20 seconds to recharge, but it would make player invisible for radars (he can't be targeted) for 5 seconds.

I believe this kind of equipment, while many times suggested, is not possible to implement, due to how the mechanics of the game handle sensor range.

In terms of the observable objects (planets, bases, players), there are two functions:
- one it's dependent on the object class, and allows planets to be seen from anywhere in the system, if previously spotted, and pilots/ships to disappear once they leave the observer range.
- second is the visibility status, which when turned off (cloaks), removes the object from the scanning system, even within range of the observer. This status affects everyone that could observe the object.
- mobile objects (ships/players) don't have a variable that regulates how far they can be seen (which this equipment would affect)

On the side of the observer there is the observable range, that is affected by the scanner equipment, as we all know.

Unless the underlined sentence is false or incorrect, it will be impossible to produce sensor jammers.

Pretty sure it is possible. It's just a cloak without the invisibility graphics effect. Cloak already removes the ship from sensors after all.

I seem to remember this being achieved several years ago but never gaining much popularity. Can't find source, though. I can't remember what I ate for breakfast yesterday, remembering a few years back isn't going to happen.
