so how is Liberty carrier in combat? was it worth transforming from brick box to a hot dog? Im curious since I never fly any ship modelled by me except vidar
also one day I tried to make a kamaz 4911 engine model but somehow liberty carrier was born, true story lol
I don't fly one, but I did face them in battles.
Since the old carrier had 3 more heavy turrets, 2 more primaries and 140k more base armour and not much greater size if it turns the right side, the current one is at quite a disadvantage against large targets. It dies easily to Valors. But I suppose it wasn't meant for anti-cap combat, as it is a carrier. It is quite good at covering snubs with its many secondaries though. Probably against gunboats too.
I say the nerf is worth the looks, but I also think that heavy carriers should be turned into heavy battleships. They are currently only good for producing QQs from the snubs unlucky enough to find themselves too close to one.
Don't bash on Atlantis. |x
Its good with a certain loadout.
I personally use Heavy Mortars on heavy slots for prims i use BS Pulse Cannons 2 Flaks and rest Solaris Gatling. (x
Use your Carrier as Support ship. Put 2x Heavy Mortar and 4x Pulse, Do not use Solaris Gattling Turrets, Use Basic Secondary Turrets also 4x Flak.
Against Battleships;
Stay behind your Friendly Battleships
Fire your 4x Pulse to deshield hostile Battleships
2x Heavy Mortar to High Damage
Against Cruisers/Gunboats;
Use your Basic Secondary Turrets only
When they get too close, use your 2x Heavy Mortar to insta them.
Against Nova Bombers/Fighters
Use your Basic Secondaries and Flaks against Torpedo Bombers also Flaks to deflect torpedos.
You can use your flaks against Fighters/Bombers when they get too close
Edit: Support Carrier have no chance against Any Battleship in close range.
Solaris Gatling is a matter of choice really.
If you want to ARPE bombers and other snubs, along with Gunboats i go for Solaris.
Secondaries cant be hit that easy on a Gunboat. They are too agile thats why a Gatling swarm works far better for me.
The LAC's good in overall, but don't bring it against other battleships. It might have some chance against a turtle if you know how to utilize it, but its effectiveness against battleships ends here.
I've used and I've seen the Lib carrier used as a main battleship and I think it's really good. A standard Anti Cap ship load out, 5 flaks that cover the whole ship and 2 pulses do quite a bit of damage. The Carrier is more of a strafing ship, much like any other Carrier. As soon as you start to turret steer you lose the effectiveness of the carriers "slim" model and you start to shoe it's longer sides which isn't a good thing.
As @Jayce said the Carrier is good at having docking modules. In fact it has 4 of them and you can load up snubs and then have someone undock snubs in the middle of a fire fight. I've seen people use Carriers as a "Command and Control" mobile station where they'll hide somewhere and use it as a base of operations telling people what to do, giving clearance to engage and act as a refilling point for ammo and regens.
If you plan to do the above, a good support loadout would work. A mix of missiles and mortars or just mortars (not heavy) would do fine. Arm the Carrier up with 4 pulses and a mixture of Solaris and Gatling turrets to deter enemy fighters away from the carrier (You won't be killing them though) and you have a somewhat effective support ship. Personally, support ships only really work in larger battles and you'll end up dieing to any non new player in a battleship.
In my opinion, heavy mortars use to much core and they rely on you having to be fairly accurate. I suggest the normal mortars because you can fire 1 every 2 seconds (Provided you have 2 of them) making it quite hard for the enemy to dodge.
