My name is Franz Pfannenstiel, director and chief engineer of ALG's Research and Development Department.
We are contacting you today in regards to a new program initiated by the Security Division.
The aim is to expand ALG Security's combat capabilities by training a new generation of crews to operate vessels heavier than anything we currently possess, in order to better fulfill the function of combat pivot and deterrent when dealing with major threats faced by Rheinland and ALG, as these have become too much to deal with by our fleet of snubcraft and handful of gunboats.
At least, that's the statement given to me by Security Division. I don't know about that, I'm more of a practical man.
So, the practical aspect. We are looking at the possibility of operating a Donau-class cruiser under ALG identification. Currently, we're working on organizing a training program for potential crews, but that still leaves the vessel itself.
In theory, Dortmund has the capacity to assemble ships of this size, assuming the necessary licensing were all cleared up, but we consider it far more economical to restore a salvaged vessel.
As Texas and the border systems are one of our main areas of operation, we've had no shortage of military vessel components in various conditions, but a few weeks ago we recovered the most complete Donau-class wreck so far.
The ship was disabled and decompressed by what appears to be a mortar hit on the bow which obliterated what amounts to almost one third of the ship, but with only relatively minor combat damage otherwise. It was written off as a total loss by the Military, but not entirely beyond repair in our estimation.
Obviously there are political issues that would need to be taken care of were we to restore and operate this vessel, but we would first like to inquire if you would interested in principle to do so in the first place. Needless to say, without Daumann engineers that have the know-how, this project would have to be scrapped before it begins.
If you are interested, I would provide a more detailed summary of the necessary work to be done.
