I said I better report this straight away, lest people complain about BHg abuse gone over the top.
We were practising in Manchester south of Sheffield Station, when I killed a npc and suddenly the message comes up that I killed a player called Johnnie.Walker. Who was in Alaska at the time.
I have a screenie which I'll post later. A few of our members saw it too.
Same thing happened to me today, i was in Gamma on my 101st, and in the middle of a fight i killed =CR=Velo. At that time he was in Tau 44, many systems away from Gamma.
That looks like quite the bug. Never happened to me though. Did the other person REALLY die btw ? Did he PM you about it ?
Anyways ...
Mai roflsniper goes pew pew pew ?
This is truly strange, although not really surprising. FLHook, the program used to generate the who killed who death messages, makes educated guesses about who killed who. I'm guessing it's guessing wrong.
1. If the death message is wrong then this is not really a big deal...a bit of a pain...but it doesn't really matter.
2. If players are actually able to kill other players in other systems then this is a big deal. This *should* be impossible.
Does anyone know of the second situation happening?

So, others are having this problem too. My TBH char was fighting a RoS guy and when I killed him, the death message said that he was slain by a Merc (which led to a great amount of confusion between us for the next 5 minutes).
Carlos Rivera: Corsair Brotherhood Pirate - Retired, shifted to Tripoli Shipyard's Research and Development engineering teams Anthony Cameron: Guild Core Bounty Hunter - Killed in Action, committed suicide after being trapped in Omicron Minor following its destruction Juan Ruiz: Outcast Ghost of Razgriz Pirate - Killed in Action, killed by the Sirius Coalition Revolutionary Army during Bretonian piracy raid Michael Winchester: Liberty Security Force Agent - Missing in Action, likely killed during Rheinland espionage mission or trapped in Rheinland Space Eric McCormick: Order Pilot - Retired, shifted to planetside training of new recruits
I'm not positive here, but here's how I think it works:
FL hook keeps track of kills and deaths, and not necessarily just on players but maybe NPC's as well. So... it's possible that if you kill an NPC in one system, and someone else dies at exactly (or very close to) the same time as you get that kill, FLhook thinks the two players were involved in combat and one killed the other, even though neither player actually killed the other.
As far as I'm aware, it's only a message error - nobody is actually killing people from seperate systems.

yes, it's been happening for a long time now, I had it happen to me over a month ago - I was fighting NPC's in omicron minor, and all of a sudden the server says I killed such and such player who wasnt even in the same half of sirius as I was.
I think it's happening more often lately because we have more people playing on the server now.
