Well they did claim they were going to do it ahead of time and they followed through, so there's that. It appears that Steam has straightened things out now, but I'd err on the side of caution today.
Right okay so i'm not sure if this is actually the case but i find it VERY strange. So i went out with friends a few hours ago and left my PC running (as usual, it was updating a few things in steam so i just left it). I came back to find it had rebooted on its own (Sitting at the lock screen), the PC was making HDD spin up/Spin down noises and it was lagging to hell. So after pondering for 20 minutes i finally discovered it was my 500GB HDD i dedicate to steam, thats literally the only thing on that drive. So i unplug it and the PC is behaving normally now. I'm slightly concerned about this, that is for certain. Western Digital Blue 500 GB SATA drive that is less than 4 months old. Strangeness indeed that it's behaving like that. Happy christmas to me then..
PS: If anyone could suggest a way for me to recover the Steam library, my 56k connection will take literally years to download over 200GB of data again, i'd greatly appreciate it. My main 1TB Western Digital seems unaffected by the goings on. The Steam drive just spins up/spins down constantly and if i try and click something on that drive it either crashes windows explorer, BSODs the PC or causes a lock up to which i need to pull the plug out.

That's the reason why I don't use Steam at all. Call me old-timer, but I actually hate having games out on the account, because I know that situations like these can happen and erase your games you paid - or worse. I prefer having boxes and physical disc without all that third party software BS. But nowadays, even that is not so sure.
And the fact Steam is obligatory to play game is just an annoyance for me. I got Morrowind GOTY not so long time ago. Imagine my disappointment, when I found out it actually requires Steam, with no information on the box drawn it is such a game.
