I have recently had many ideas for ships and stuff which i have drawn out, and quite liked. I have had previous experience in information technology class of using a program called blender. I am wondering what a good 3d modelling program is for beginners that is compatible with freelancer and easy to use/learn, that still allows good models to be made. Any guidance on this is great, as whether or not they are worthy for discovery, i would like to at least bring the images on my paper and in my mind into 3 dimensions, and to eventually learn to texture them as well. A freeware program is preferable.

Any 3d application will work so long as you can export to a file-format recognised by Milkshape. The most common being .3ds, beyond that there is a separate process on top of the actual process of producing the mesh.

You can actually even continue with Blender if you're most comfortable there, but there are some finer points to modelling for Freelancer, of which we as the community will be glad you get acquainted with. Below are some useful links to help you get started.

Now, good luck!

Also, rather good and simple to use modeling program that is also free is Metasequoia.
